Why isn't Brock Purdy playing today vs Packers? All about 49ers QB's injury
The San Francisco 49ers were left terribly shorthanded on the eve of their Week 12 matchup with the Green Bay Packers with starting quarterback Brock Purdy ruled out of the game.
Purdy was one of seven Niners players ruled out for a crucial showdown in Wisconsin with San Francisco currently bottom of the NFC West.
Purdy was ruled out earlier in the week after suffering a shoulder injury. While the Niners downplayed the concern heading into Week 12, Purdy's shoulder soreness meant the Niners had to leave him out of the Packers showdown.
When will Brock Purdy return to action?
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan is holding out hope that this is merely a one-game absence for his starting quarterback. Shanahan told NFL dot com:
"I don't want to say there's long-term concern, you know we got the MRI on Monday, we thought he just needed some rest and really weren't concerned about him not being good this week.
"But when he started up Thursday, it just surprised him, surprised us how it felt. So we had to shut him down, and so I really don't know what to think of it. The MRI doesn't look like that, so it should be alright, but the way it responded this week, it's really up in the air for next week. So we'll have to see on Monday."
With Purdy out of the Packers game, the Niners have turned to Brandon Allen, who promptly registered his first touchdown off a throw to George Kittle in the first half of the game.
Considering the Niners are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs, they have been linked with a move for Daniel Jones, who was recently released by the New York Giants. However, the Niners aren't the only ones eyeing a move for the $160 million signal caller. The Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins have also been credited with interest.
Multiple NFL insiders have reported that Jones will wait out Week 12 to analyse which team fits his needs best before making a firm decision on his future.
