Why was Gardner Minshew living in a prison bus? Eagles QB puts ‘perfect tailgate’ vehicle up for sale ahead of Christmas Eve Cowboys showdown
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Gardner Minshew showed up to spring practice earlier this year with an unusual type of transportation. During the offseason, the quarterback purchased an old prison bus and lived in it. He parked the bus outside the gym where he trains in Florida.
When it came time to head north to Philadelphia, the team accommodated his vehicle and allowed him to park it outside of NovaCare, their training facility.
During training camp, video of Minshew exiting the bus before practice made its rounds on social media. He said at the time that he purchased the former prison transport vehicle, did a little DIY work on it and then lived in it. He was planning on selling it at the time. He also told reporters that it was the "perfect tailgate vehicle."
This week, Minshew said that the old prison bus is still parked outside the Philadelphia Eagles training facility. He, however, is no longer living in it and has moved but the bus is stationary. He has yet to sell it as of yet, but one could imagine that it would sell for a good amount of money. Especially as fans may want to tailgate in a player's former house on wheels.
QB Gardner Minshew to start vs. Dallas Cowboys
Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts has had a standout season, one that has his team at 13-1 and has him in the MVP conversation. But in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears, Hurts suffered a shoulder injury. This had the team concerned about his status heading into an NFC East showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Eve.
Just days ahead of the game, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that Gardner Minshew will start against their NFC East division rivals.
The 26 year old hasn't started a NFL game since the 2021 NFL season in which he started two games for the Eagles. He was 1-1 in those two starts, and has made just two appearances this season.
He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and was named the starter after Nick Foles was injured. Starting 12 games in his rookie season, he went 6-6 and threw for 3,271 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. He did endure injuries his second season and started just eight games with a poor 1-7 record. He was traded to the Eagles in August 2021 in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.
