Why was Taylor Swift not at the Chiefs-Panthers? Exploring reasons behind popstar's continued absence from away games
Since September 2023, Taylor Swift has been a regular at Kansas City Chiefs games, showing her support for Travis Kelce. Last season, the Grammy-winning singer attended over a dozen NFL games which led through the AFC playoffs and a victory in Super Bowl LVIII.
On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs took on the Carolina Panthers on the road at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Swift's latest concert stop in Toronto, Canada, wrapped up on Saturday night, but she didn't attend the game.
It was the second consecutive game that Swift didn't attend. So far this season, she has only been at home games at Arrowhead Stadium. While she wasn't at Kelce's game on Sunday, his dad, Ed Kelce, attended Swift's concert at Rogers Centre on Saturday evening.
Why has Taylor Swift only attended home games at Arrowhead Stadium?
Last season, Taylor Swift attended Kansas City Chiefs games both at home at Arrowhead as well as on the road. This season, she has only attended home games which has some questioning the reason for that.
This past summer, Swift's concert stop in Vienna, Austria, was canceled after officials learned that ISIS had planned a terror attack at her concert. Since then, Swift and her security team have heightened their awareness, and it is considered one of the reasons the singer hasn't gone to road games.
A source told Page Six in September 2024 that Swift and her team feel comfortable and safe at Arrowhead.
“She has worked with Arrowhead so many times, they feel at ease and comfortable. Going to all kinds of different stadiums, you need to send a team in advance,” a source told Page Six.
There were also reports that when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's family attended the AFC divisional game against the Buffalo Bills last season, the group had some issues. Fans at Highmark Stadium reportedly yelled at the box they were sitting in and they didn't feel comfortable returning to the stadium for last week's game.
This Friday, the Chiefs will host the Raiders in a Black Friday matchup at home and Swift doesn't have any scheduled shows this weekend.
The Chiefs are currently 10-1 and are poised to make another playoff run. While the Super Bowl is set to be played at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, it's unclear if Swift will attend should the Chiefs make their third consecutive appearance in the big game.
