Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield will play in Week 10 despite dealing with an injury. The Buccaneers host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.
Mayfield has been dealing with a toe injury, but the Buccaneers don't think it will be an issue.
What happened to Baker Mayfield?
Baker Mayfield has been dealing with a nagging toe injury.
Mayfield didn't practice on Thursday which made many people question his status for Sunday. But, Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen said Thursday that the day off was to help Mayfield recover and he should play on Sunday.
"Liam Coen says that Baker Mayfield will be fine on Sunday and that he’s done more today on his injured toe than he has the past few days. Says he hopes Mayfield can remain mobile as that mobility has been a weapon for the offense this year."
After not practicing on Thursday, Baker Mayfield spoke to the media and confirmed he would be playing on Sunday.
"A little sore but I'll be good to go by Sunday," Mayfield said, via the team website.
This season, Mayfield has thrown for 2,389 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers are coming off a 30-24 OT loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.
Baker Mayfield and Buccaneers looking to snap losing streak
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 4-5 and are on a three-game losing streak.
Tampa Bay is now in second place in the NFC South, trailing the Atlanta Falcons by two games. Ahead of the Buccaneers' tough game against the 49ers, Mayfield spoke about what the team needs to do better.
"It's just – obviously, singular game focus, but knowing that the Bye Week is after this one is going to be a huge help for us to get some guys back but yeah," Mayfield said. "Offensively, and I'll just speak on that – you know, I mentioned it after the game, leaving three points [on the field] before halftime is a huge thing.
"That goes back to in the weeks prior, the turnovers I had in the red zone or past the 50 [yard-line] – making sure we're doing everything we can on offense to not leave points out there. That's what we're focused on is finishing drives, still trying to find some ways to get explosives… We're doing a good job of driving the ball on everybody but need to finish, need to find more explosives as well.
The Buccaneers are 6.5-point underdogs at home against San Francisco on Sunday.
