Winningest franchise in NFL history: Aaron Rodgers and Packers upend Bears to become team with most wins

Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers ended their two-game losing streak with a 28-19 win over divisional rivals the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The win helped the Packers create history. It was Green Bay's 787th win in the NFL, making them the winningest franchise in the league's regular-season history. The four-time Super Bowl champions are fifth on the list of teams with the most Lombardi trophies but lead the pack in wins.

But who else ranks among the most successful in NFL history?

Top 5 Winningest teams in NFL history

#5 Washington Commanders - 617 wins

The Washington Commanders, previously known as the Washington Redskins and Washington Football team, have amassed 617 wins in the NFL. The three-time Super Bowl champions played their first season in the NFL in 1932 and have since been ever-present in the league. They are the only team among the NFL's top five winningest teams that have lost more games (622) than they have won.

#4 Pittsburgh Steelers - 652 wins

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the most successful franchise in NFL history, having won the Super Bowl six times (which is tied for most all-time along with the New England Patriots). They rank fourth on the list of teams with the most regular-season wins with 652.

#3 New York Giants - 706 wins

The New York Giants are one of four teams, alongside the Bears, Packers, and the Arizona Cardinals, founded in the 1920s and still present in the NFL. The four-time Super Bowl champions have won 706 games in the NFL regular season. Their 38 ties rank fifth in NFL history.

#2 Chicago Bears - 786 teams

It included three Hall of Famers: Walter Payton, Mike Singletary and Richard Dent.

The Chicago Bears are the oldest active NFL team and were the league's winningest team for 100 years before being usurped by the Packers on Sunday. Despite being the winningest team in NFL history for a century, the Bears have only one Super Bowl win to their name. They hoisted the Lombardi trophy at the end of the 1985 season and have since failed to add another to their trophy cabinet.

#1 Green Bay Packers - 787 wins

After trailing their arch-rivals for a century, Green Bay have finally become the NFL's winningest franchise. Coincidentally, they usurped the Bears on the all-time wins list with a win over them. The Packers won Super Bowl I and II but have hoisted the Lombardi trophy only twice in the past 55 years. Green Bay's regular-season prowess over the past 25 years (with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers under center) has helped them finally dethrone them as the winningest team in NFL history.
