Zay Flowers or DeVonta Smith Week 9 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Fantasy Football Projections for WRs
Zay Flowers and DeVonta Smith - they are among the most promising wideouts in the league today. Both are very light men (around 170 lbs) who use their speed and agility to burn defenders, and that has allowed them to be very prolific and make their respective teams the top seed of their conference at various points.
But as with any fantasy matchup, there is often room for only one of them on someone's roster. So who gets the nod here?
Is Zay Flowers a good fantasy pick in Week 9?
Zay Flowers was easily the Baltimore Ravens' best receiver at the Cleveland Browns, catching seven passes for 115 yards - the most in the game. However, the Ravens lost as fellow sophomore Cedric Tillman broke out with 99 yards and two touchdowns in as many catches.
But their next opponents, the Denver Broncos, are a "breather opponent" when compared to the Browns. There is only one defensive star in Pat Surtain II, and even then he is mostly alone in a secondary that has much work to do before becoming the second iteration of the "No Fly Zone".
Is DeVonta Smith a good fantasy pick in Week 9?
DeVonta Smith had a fantastic time at the Cincinnati Bengals, dominating their secondary to the tune of 85 yards and a touchdown on six catches. But that task may very likely get easier against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Duval's current secondary is nowhere near as good as it was in 2017, when it had All-Pro/Pro Bowl cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye. Even with the return of Tyson Campbell to accompany 2021 batchmate Andre Cisco, there is still a noticeable lack of impact and star power in that unit.
Whom should I start between Zay Flowers and DeVonta Smith?
The Sportskeeda Start/Sit tool once again recommends Flowers, projecting that he will be not just more productive, but more versatile as well.
He is already monstrous when it comes to catching balls from well beyond the line of scrimmage, but he can also run the ball in trick plays. When combined with the rushing exploits of Derrick Henry, Lamar Jackson, and even Justice Hill; and the receiving exploits of fellow wideouts Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor and tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaish Likely, that makes him and the Ravens close to unstoppable for the Broncos.
