7 most powerful cards in the Pokemon TCG Surging Sparks expansion 

Pokemon TCG's newest expansion, Surging Sparks, fleshes out some of the mechanics introduced in the Scarlet and Violet generation of the franchise. Many new renditions of Tera, Past, and Future Pokemon cards are included in this new set, and some show serious potential for competitive use.

Not only are there cards that deal massive amounts of damage, but there are also a wide variety of supporting options with great utility to spread damage, status effects, or provide some other type of assistance through its ability.

Here are seven of the most powerful cards in the recent Surging Sparks expansion in the Pokemon TCG.

1) Skeledirge

Skeledirge is cheap to set up, and can deal triple-digit damage for only two energies (Image via The Pokemon Company)

Skeledirge is one of the new Fire-type cards in Pokemon TCG's Surging Sparks. It has some of the best tanking potential of any non-ex card offered.

Thanks to its Unaware ability, Skeledirge is immune to secondary effects from all attacks. Its Torcherto move deals an impressive base 60 damage for only costing two energies. However, it deals an additional 20 damage for each benched Pocket Monster, making the damage total a staggering 160.

2) Koraidon

Surging Sparks will bring a new rendition of Koraidon to the Pokemon trading card game, and this variant will likely become a must-have for all decks using Ancient Pocket Monsters.

Through the use of its Unrelenting Onslaught attack, Koraidon can deal 180 damage for two colorless energies if the last creature to attack the target was an Ancient Pokemon. If players can find a way to remove retreat costs, Koraidon can become devastating.

3) Cyclizar ex

Like other Tera Pokemon cards, Cyclizar ex can be a bit tricky to set up reliable energy for. However, its secondary effects on both of its attacks make it some of the most helpful utility choices for certain decks.

The most effective move Cyclizar ex has is Break Through, costing three colorless energies. This attack also deals 30 damage to a benched Pokemon, which can be quite impactful if it gets on the field early.

4) Latias ex

Latias ex is one of the most helpful supporting ex cards in the Pokemon TCG's Surging Sparks expansion. This is due to its Skyliner ability removing the retreat cost of all Basic Pokemon. This has some serious potential when used in an Ancient Deck paired with the new Koraidon card.

With most Legendary Pokemon and ex cards being Basic Pokemon, the list of creatures that benefit from Skyliner is suprisingly long.

5) Cetitan

Cetitan has the potential to be a great tank choice for Water-type decks. Thanks to its Solid Body ability, it takes 30 less damage from attacks. This, combined with its high HP of 180, makes it incredibly hard to take down.

Only being a two-member evolutionary line, Cetitan is very easy to get on the field compared to other creatures with a similar health pool.

6) Durant ex

Durant ex is one of the more surprising hard-hitters from the Pokemon TCG's Surging Sparks expansion.

Its Vengeful Crush attack can prove to be incredibly helpful for players in a losing match. This is thanks to the move's secondary effect, increasing its base power by 30 for every prize card the opponent has taken. If the opponent has taken five of their prize cards, this move deals 270 total damage.

7) Milotic ex

Milotic ex is one of the best defensive creatures introduced in Surging Sparks. Thanks to its Sparkling Scales ability, it takes no damage from Tera Pokemon mitigates the effects from their moves.

Milotic ex's attack, Hypno Splash, only requires 3 energies and deals 160 damage. It also has the additional benefit of putting the target to sleep, potentially keeping them from acting over several turns.
