Can you remotely participate in Dynamax Battles in Pokemon GO?

Pokemon GO's Max Out season brings Dynamax Pokemon into the popular mobile game. However, players can only obtain these creatures by completing their respective Max Battles and catching them afterwards. Since these Pocket Monsters are restricted Max Battles, some trainers may want to know if they can complete them remotely.

It has been confirmed that Max Battles cannot be done remotely. This means that players must be present at the location of the fight against the Dynamax Pokemon.

While it is unfortunate that yet another type of raid is restricted in this manner, here are some helpful tips trainers can keep in mind when challenging Max Battles.

Tips for taking on Max Battles in Pokemon GO

One of the biggest differences between Pokemon GO's Max Battles and other raids is that only four trainers can compete in a lobby at a given time. This is much different than the standard raids, which allow up to 20 players to join. This has likely been done as a way to make these battles much more difficult while also being faithful to the main series games.

Max Battles are also the only places where the new Dynamax forms can be used. The ability to Dynamax carries over as a creature evolves, so many trainers still actively taking part in the current wave of Max Battles may very well already have a Charizard or Blastoise that can Dynamax and carry the rest of the fight.

Another important detail to keep in mind is to never underestimate Max Raid Bosses. Though only One-Star Max Battles are available right now, these creatures are meant to be taken on by a group of players and have been balanced accordingly.

The recent wave of Raid Battle changes also carries over to Max Battles, so the bosses will frequently fire off charged attacks.

With this in mind, players who are new to Max Battles should challenge these fights in groups of two or three, depending on the Pocket Monsters each trainer has access to. Keeping type effectiveness in mind will also make a huge difference, as super-effective attacks can help take these bosses down quickly before they can fire off too many charged attacks.

Are Max Battles worth it in Pokemon GO?

As of writing, Max Battles contribute very little to the game, having no high-tier creatures to offer. Given how far some players would need to go out of their way to challenge one, the experience can be unrewarding.
