Can you solo defeat Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star raids?
Is it possible to solo defeat Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star raids? This is a question that will be on the minds of many players as the Gen II legendary returns to Niantic's mobile game at 10 am local time on November 4, 2024. It will be available until 10 am local time on November 18, when it will be replaced by Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia.
Unfortunately for trainers wishing to challenge the raid boss on their own, it is not possible to solo defeat Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star raids. There are various factors at play leading to this effect and this article covers everything you need to know about it.
Why is it impossible to solo defeat Lugia in Pokemon GO 5-star raids?
It is impossible to solo defeat Lugia in Pokemon GO for the following reasons:
- While Lugia has six weaknesses — Electric, Rock, Ice, Dark, and Ghost — none of them is a double weakness, which is usually a necessary condition to solo 5-star raids.
- Lugia is EXTREMELY bulky. On top of its massive base defense stat of 310, it possesses 5-star raid bosses' 15,000 HP health bar. This makes it impossible for single trainers to whittle down its HP within 300 seconds.
- While Lugia is not known for its offense, its 193 base attack hits sufficiently hard to knock out your attackers multiple times over, further eating into the time limit.
Even after the release of notoriously strong attackers like Dawn Wings Necrozma with Moongeist Beam, it is impossible to take down Lugia on your own.
Minimum number of trainers needed to take down 5-star Lugia raids in Pokemon GO
Even with maxed-out counters, you need at least three trainers to take down Lugia in 5-star raids. However, the raid can be defeated by two trainers when the weather boost is active and if two Best Friends are challenging these battles. Either way, the fight will be extremely difficult, and the margin for error will be small — especially in the second case.
