Can you transfer Gigantamax Pokemon from Pokemon GO to HOME?

Gigantamax Pokemon are the newest additions to Pokemon GO, debuting during the recent GO Bigger event. With Gigantamax becoming easier to find than in the main series, some players may try seeing if they are able to transfer these types of Pokemon to the main series through the Pokemon HOME storage application.

Niantic has confirmed that this will not be possible. However, the HOME application can still be an incredibly useful tool for fans of the main series and GO to have. Here is everything to know about Pokemon HOME, as well as what types of creatures cannot be transferred there.

What is Pokemon HOME?

Pokemon HOME is a free-to-use storage application, with subscriptions available for increased capacity sizes. Without a subscription, players can store up to 30 Pokemon from any of the compatible games. The mobile version of the app allows players to view and Wonder Trade their creatures right from the application, instead of needing to take place in a main series title.

The version of the app for the Nintendo Switch allows players to send creatures to and from their main series games into storage. Through the console build of the app, players can transfer creatures from Pokemon Bank as well. Bank was a storage application available for the 3DS, which allows players to store their creatures from various handheld titles.

By connecting the user's Pokemon GO account to the Nintendo account linked to their Pokemon HOME account, they can send creatures from the mobile spin-off directly into storage as well. However, there are some limitations on which creatures can be transferred from GO.

Many types of creatures cannot be transferred from Niantic's mobile spin-off. Of course, there are trainer-made restrictions like being the player's Buddy Pokemon, being favorited in the menu, or if the creature is currently defending a gym.

Additionally, Shadow and Mega Evolved Pokemon cannot be sent from GO to HOME, either. Since Shadow Pokemon have only ever been available in spin-offs, this would make sense. Mega Evolutions also work much differently in the main series, and cannot be stored like the average creature.

Oddly, Spinda cannot be transferred. This could be because of the many spot patterns it has, or because of how their programming between games could drastically differ. This makes Spindas in Pokemon GO incompatible with the mainline titles. Lucky and Purified Pokemon lose their statuses when transferred to the storage application as well.

Being transferred from Pokemon GO to HOME also causes some creatures to change their forms. Giratina, Cherrim, and Castform will all revert to their base forms when sent to HOME. This could mostly be due to each of their forms being accessible in the main series under certain circumstances.
