How to get Machop in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?
Players will once again get to see Machop in Pokemon GO, thanks to the Spotlight Hour on September 24, 2024 (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm local time). The critter's shiny form has been available to catch since the mobile title's launch in 2016. Trainers now have the opportunity to obtain both variants in the game. However, the Fighting-type Pocket Monster's shiny version is challenging to acquire, given its rarity.
This article will guide you on how to get both forms of Machop in Pokemon GO.
All known ways to acquire Machop in Pokemon GO
In the past, Machop in Pokemon GO has been available in the following ways, with only two methods being viable as of now.
- Encounter and catch wild Machop (reliable now)
- Hatch Pokemon eggs (not currently reliable)
- Defeat Raid Battles (not currently reliable)

1) Encounter and catch a wild Machop
A wild Machop’s spawn rate is naturally boosted in Cloudy weather. This is thanks to the activation of the Weather Boost effect.
Events like the Machop Spotlight Hour increase the spawn rate of Machop in Pokemon GO. This rate goes up further in Cloudy weather.
You can use the lure strategy to improve the appearance odds of wild Machop in the game. This can be done by attaching Lure Modules to Pokestops and turning on Incense independently. These in-game items have the power to attract wild critters spawning in a specific weather condition, meaning Machop will become easily encounterable in the wild.
2) Hatch Pokemon eggs
Like in the past, you can hatch eggs to encounter and obtain specific Pokemon like Machop in Pokemon GO.
3) Defeat raid battles
Machop is a Fighting-type Pokemon, so it is 160% weak to Fairy-, Flying-, and Psychic-type moves.
You should teach these attacks to the following counters so that you can take down Machop in Pokemon GO raids:
- Mega Rayquaza: Air Slash and Dragon Ascent
- Shadow Mewtwo: Psycho Cut and Psystrike
- Shadow Lugia: Extrasensory and Aeroblast
- Tapu Lele: Confusion and Nature’s Madness
- Lunala: Confusion and Future Sight
- Shadow Lugia: Zen Headbutt and Psychic
- Shadow Alakazam: Psycho Cut and Future Sight

You can complete research tasks to get Pokemon encounters as rewards. In the past, trainers were able to find Machop by finishing research tasks.
Developer Niantic may bring back the ability to obtain Machop via research tasks in the future. When that happens, you should complete them to earn Machop encounters.
5) Take GO Snapshot
You can take photographs of different Pocket Monsters to get encounters with them.
As of writing, there aren't any events featuring Machop in GO Snapshot. However, one is likely to be released in the future.
6) Win GO Battle League
There are a few battles you could win in the GO Battle League to get yourself Pokemon encounters. However, this method is not currently viable.
