How to get Safari Balls in Pokemon GO

Pokemon GO is bringing a unique experience to trainers with the introduction of Safari Balls, which will debut at the upcoming GO Wild Area Global event on November 18-22, 2024. This new Poke Ball, officially called the GO Safari Ball, offers increased capture power to help players catch even the mighty Pokemon they encounter during this limited-time event.

Here’s everything you need to know about the GO Safari Ball and how you can get them.

The GO Safari Ball is a special, event-exclusive Poke Ball designed for use during Pokemon GO’s Wild Area events. Unlike the standard Poke Balls and other specialty balls like Ultra Balls or Great Balls, this one boasts a notably higher catch rate, making it easier to secure a successful capture.

While similar to traditional Safari Balls from previous Pokemon games, the GO Safari Ball is distinct in having “GO” emblazoned on its top. During the Global event, this enhanced Poke Ball will only be effective within the event's designated area and will lose its boosted catch rate if used elsewhere.

The GO Safari Ball is limited to event ticket holders, who will have several ways to obtain it during the GO Wild Area Global event:

  • Timed Research Tasks: Ticket holders will receive a special Timed Research task during their ticketed hours. Upon completion, this task will reward a small number of GO Safari Balls. Additionally, each hour throughout the event, ticket holders will have access to new Timed Research tasks that offer additional GO Safari Balls as rewards.
  • Spinning Photo Discs: If you’re lucky, spinning Photo Discs at PokeStops and Gyms within the event area can also yield GO Safari Balls. This method provides players with a chance to obtain extra GO Safari Balls without needing to complete tasks.
  • Hourly Timed Research: Every hour during the event, ticket holders will receive a Timed Research task that expires one hour after it’s issued. Completing these tasks promptly will grant extra GO Safari Balls. However, don’t wait too long; once the hour is up, the task and its rewards will disappear.

Keep in mind, any unused GO Safari Balls will expire from your Item Bag at 5 pm JST each day of the event. They are designed specifically for use in the event’s area and timeframe, so players must make sure to use them within this window.

For trainers outside of the Global event, the GO Safari Ball’s boosted catch rate will not be available, underscoring its event-exclusive functionality.

With their powerful capture capability, GO Safari Balls are a valuable addition to any trainer’s event-day toolkit, particularly when encountering hard-to-catch Pokemon in the Wild Area. If you're attending the Global event, don’t miss this chance to try them out and experience the enhanced capture success they offer.
