How to get Sewaddle in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Trainers have been encountering and catching Sewaddle in Pokemon GO since August 14, 2020. The creature was introduced during the Unova Week event and has been a popular creature in the community. Shiny Sewaddle was absent from the game for so long, but it is set to make its GO debut with the start of the October 2024 Community Day on October 5, 2024.

The Shiny and regular variants of Sewaddle have different color schemes, but their fighting prowess is the same. That being said, here is a guide on how you can get Sewaddle and Shiny Sewaddle in Pokemon GO.

You have the following methods to get your hands on Sewaddle in the game:

  • Catch a wild Sewaddle (reliable)

  • Hatch Pokemon eggs (unreliable)
  • Defeat Raid Battles (unreliable)
  • Complete Research Tasks (reliable)
  • Trade (reliable)

1) Catch a wild Sewaddle

Since the spawn rate of Sewaddle is boosted by Rainy or Cloudy weather conditions, it is wise for you to locate it in these weathers. You can even turn on the effects of the Lure Module and Incense to increase the number of times this creature appears in the wild.

While you have to use Lure Modules at PokeStops in Rainy or Cloudy weather to activate them, Incense can be turned on independently. Using lure items and exploiting the Weather Boost effect is the best strategy to come across a Sewaddle in Pokemon GO.

2) Hatch Pokemon eggs

Pokemon eggs can be hatched by trainers to find Sewaddle. However, you need to know which eggs feature the creature. There are 2 km, 5 km, and 7 km items that when hatched can offer you Sewaddle.

But, sadly, you cannot get the creature with this method as of writing.

3) Defeat Raid Battles

Sewaddle made its entry as a one-star Raid Boss in Raid Battles in the past. Hence, one had to defeat the monster to be eligible to encounter it in Pokemon GO.

This creature is weak to Fire-, Flying-, Bug-, Ice-, Poison-, and Rock-type attacks. Among all, Fire- and Flying-type moves inflict significant damage to Sewaddle in raids.

That said, here are its counters:

  • Mega Rayquaza: Air Slash and Dragon Ascent

  • Mega Y Charizard: Fire Spin and Blast Burn
  • Shadow Heatran: Fire Spin and Magma Storm
  • Blacephalon: Incinerate and Mystical Fire
  • Braviary: Air Slash and Brave Bird
  • Shadow Staraptor: Gust and Fly
  • Solgaleo: Fire Spin and Overheat

4) Complete Research Tasks

You can finish a particular task to get Sewaddle in Pokemon GO. The upcoming Community Day of October 2024 featuring the creature will provide trainers with opportunities to encounter and store it.

Once this event concludes, you will have to wait for future events to find Sewaddle through research quests.

5) Trade

When everything goes against your plan and you cannot obtain Sewaddle in Pokemon GO, you can ask your game friends to give one of their Sewaddles to you. If you want to do this activity, you must meet the trader in person and have the required Stardust item in account.
