How to get Shadow Roggenrola in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?
Pokemon GO's Galarian Expedition event brings not only Shadow Heatran but also a bevy of other Shadow Pokemon into the game. Shadow Roggenrola will be one of the newest additions to the roster when the event goes live on October 8, 2024. Unfortunately, its shiny form will not be available. This creature is known for its evolution, Gigalith.
Shadow Pokemon often offer a unique playstyle to their standard counterparts, being much more suited for an offensive assault compared to tanking damage. This could be an issue for creatures typically valued for their defensive assets like Gigalith. With this in mind, some players may want to know more about Shadow Roggenrola and its evolutions.
How to find Shadow Roggenrola in Pokemon GO
With Shadow Roggenrola confirmed to not be a part of the Team GO Rocket admin teams and being absent from Shadow Raids, it is safe to assume that it will only be available through encounters with Team GO Rocket grunts. However, not every Team GO Rocket grunt lets players catch this creature.
Each Team GO Rocket grunt represents a different elemental typing in Pokemon GO. Roggenrola is a pure Rock type, so it will only be available through matches against Rock-type grunts. Grunts that use Rock-type Pokemon can easily be identified by their opening line:
- "Let's rock and roll!"
Most grunts of an element also pick their teams from parts of a table, rather than having a set guaranteed party per encounter. With this in mind, players have between a 33% chance and a 50% chance of the grunt having a Shadow Roggenrola that players can catch after defeating them.

How to find Shiny Shadow Roggenrola when it debuts in Pokemon GO
While Shiny Roggenrola is available in Pokemon GO, its shadow variant is not. Shiny Shadow Roggenrola may come to the game as soon as the next Team GO Rocket Takeover event. It will be available either through encounters with Team GO Rocket members or from One-Star Shadow Raids, considering that it is an unevolved creature.

Will Shadow Roggenrola be good in Pokemon GO?
It is unlikely that the introduction of Shadow Roggenrola will be enough to save Gigalith from the pits of unviability in Pokemon GO's Battle League. Steel types are the king in the current metagame, so a pure Rock type like Gigalith is already at a steep disadvantage.
With the Shadow Boost taking away 10% of Gigalith's valuable defensive stat, Steel types and fighting types will be an even bigger issue for the creature. However, it may have some potential in Raid Battles and other PvE encounters.
