How to get Toxel in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Toxel in Pokemon GO debuted in the in-person Wild Area event in Fukuoka and had its global debut during the Into the Wild event. It will also be a major attraction of the Pokemon GO Wild Area: Global event, which will take place from 10 am - 6:15 pm local time on November 23 and 24, 2024.

Much like its evolved forms, fortunate trainers can even find one in its shiny variant. Here is everything to know about finding Toxel when it comes to GO.

During the Wild Area Global event, players will begin to find Toxel from 10-kilometer eggs. These eggs are rare drops from spinning Photo Disks at any Pokestop or gym location. The reason Toxel must be hatched from eggs rather than being encountered in the wild is because it is a baby Pokemon.

Baby Pokemon are a special sub-category of creatures that either cannot be found in the wild or can through incredibly specific circumstances in the main series. However, in Pokemon GO, every baby Pokemon must be hatched from eggs. Other baby Pokemon include Pichu, Riolu, Mantyke, Smoochum, Elekid, and Magby.

Once players have their Toxel egg, it may take a while to hatch. Luckily, Niantic is offering a special ticket that can be purchased for the Into the Wild event. For $5, players can purchase an egg-oriented ticket that will cut half the distance required to hatch any eggs that are incubated during the event.

Tips for finding Shiny Toxel in Pokemon GO

From the information given regarding the Into the Wild event, Toxel will still be somewhat difficult to come by, since it is being added to the hatch pool for eggs, rather than guaranteeing to hatch from eggs collected during the event. This exponentially cuts down the likelihood of any player finding a Shiny Toxel during the event.

With there being no possible way to guarantee any Toxel encounter in Pokemon GO at the time of its debut, finding a shiny one is less than likely. From every 10-kilometer egg, players will either have a 1/9 or 1/8 chance of hatching a Toxel, depending on whether or not Niantic replaces another potential hatch with the new Toxel.

Adding to this rate, there is roughly a 1/50, or 2% chance of players hatching a Shiny Pokemon from any egg. With this in mind, there is roughly a 0.25% chance that every 10-kilometer egg in Pokemon GO will hatch into a Shiny Toxel once the creature debuts. The only way for users to better their odds is to get extremely lucky with finding eggs through Pokestops.
