How does Morpeko's form change work in Pokemon GO?
Morpeko is set to debut in Pokemon GO soon for the game's Halloween celebration. Being a creature full of tricks and hosting a love for treats, its a very fitting addition for the holiday event. However, another Pikachu clone coming to the game is hardly worth much notice. What has players´ attention is Morpeko´s interesting battle gimmick.
Morpeko will be the first creature in Pokemon GO capable of changing forms in the middle of battle. To use this creature properly, players must know more about it, including how its form change occurs. Here is everything we know so far about Morpeko in Niantic´s mobile spin-off.
Understanding Morpeko´s forms in Pokemon GO
Since Morpeko is the first creature to have forms it can swap between in battle, it is being kept in somewhat of an experimental phase. As of writing, Niantic has confirmed that Morpeko can only swap forms during battles against other trainers in the Battle League or Team GO Rocket members. However, this will likely change as necessary updates are made.
To change between forms, players must command Morpeko to use a charged attack. This will likely be the case for other creatures given this treatment in the future as well since Niantic stated so in their announcement page for Morpeko´s debut. However, each creature has different purposes for changing their form, which may end up either complicating form-changes or Niantic making them significantly less impactful.
In regards to Morpeko, its form change only truly changes the elemental typing of its signature move. It does not impact the creature´s stats. Morpeko in its Full Belly mode will have access to an Electric-type version of the Aura Wheel attack, but when it changes into its Hangry mode, the move converts to the Dark element.

What other Pokemon could receive form changes in Pokemon GO?
Many creatures could receive a similar integration to Pokemon GO as Morpeko. Some monsters could also receive reworks, giving them access to their different forms. Two that come to mind are Aegislash and Cramorant, two fairly new creatures with iconic form changes.
Aegislash would fit perfectly into a similar form-changing method as Morpeko. However, it would need much more work than the rodent since Aegislash´s Blade and Shield forms have exchanging attack and defense stats. Nevertheless, it would still work perfectly changing between its Blade and Shield stances with each charged attack use.
Cramorant´s different forms give it defensive utility depending on its remaining health. Depending on the amount of health Cramorant has when using a charged attack, it could enter its Gulping or Gorging form, powering up its next fast or charged attack accordingly. These are just ideas, as Niantic has not confirmed the identity of the next form-changing creature coming to Pokemon GO.
