How to solo Dark Feraligatr 7-star Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

In the wake of the Halloween season, Game Freak has released another event Tera Raid Boss in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This time, the iconic Starter Pokemon from the Johto region, Feraligatr, takes the spotlight with a Dark Tera Typing. This event spans from November 1-3, 2024.

While many will gladly challenge Dark Feraligatr with their friends or other random trainers online, some may want to face it themselves. Here is everything they should know to vanquish this Raid Boss solo.

Unlike the last Tera Raid event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Dark Feraligatr will be a 7-Star Raid Boss, instead of a 5-Star. This makes it much harder in comparison, and the task becomes even tougher solo compared to the last Gengar Tera Raid event. However, it still has weaknesses.

For this event, Dark Feraligatr will have access to coverage moves like Psychic Fangs and Ice Punch in addition to Crunch and Liquidation, which will receive a boost in base damage. It can also use boosting moves like Swords Dance and Dragon Dance. Coupled with that, the critter can use Earthquake for some solid Ground-type damage.

Since Crunch and Liquidation will be its biggest source of damage, players' strategies should revolve around mitigating this damage.

Best counters for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Dark Feraligatr Tera Raid

While some players may have reservations about using Dragon-types for this fight, given Dark Feraligatr's access to Ice Punch, some dragons have shown potential in this fight. For starters, Kommo-o's hefty defense and access to Body Press make it a great choice. It can also Terastallize into a pure Fighting-type, removing its Ice weakness.

Here is a great build players can use for Kommo-o against Dark Feraligatr:

  • Nature: Impish (-Special Attack, +Speed)
  • Held item: Shell Bell
  • Tera Type: Fighting
  • Effort values: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 4 Special Defense
  • Moves: Body Press, Iron Defense, Breaking Swipe, Screech

Using this strategy, players can both increase Kommo-o's Defense stat while lowering Feraligatr's. Since Body Press' damage scales off the user's Defense stat and is a Fighting-type move, it will inflict massive damage on Dark Feraligatr. Both Breaking Swipe and Screech are also great for debuffing the boss.

Koraidon also has some potential against Dark Feraligatr. Since its ability sets up when Koraidon hits the battlefield, it passively reduces Dark Feraligatr's damage with Liquidation. It also has great sustain potential with Drain Punch. Here is a great build trainers can try for the Legendary Pokemon:

  • Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack)
  • Held item: Metronome
  • Tera Typing: Fighting
  • Effort values: 252 Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP
  • Moves: Drain Punch, Swords Dance, Collision Course, Breaking Swipe

The best way to use this build is to max out Koraidon's Attack with Swords Dance, then spam Drain Punch to inflict damage and keep Koraidon healthy. Using either of these picks, players should have no trouble taking down Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Dark Feraligatr Tera Raid.
