Is Pokemon TCG Pocket free to play?
Pokemon TCG Pocket is the newest entry in the iconic Pocket Monster franchise. The title has already soft-launched in New Zealand and is scheduled for a global release on October 30, 2024. Many players might be curious whether the game will be free or require a purchase from their device’s app store.
Thankfully, Pokemon TCG Pocket has been confirmed to be free to play but will feature typical mobile game monetization, such as premium currencies and cosmetic bundles. This title aims to be the most accessible way to enjoy the Pokemon Trading Card Game.

This game has a high emphasis on collecting cards rather than just battling with them. Battles feature a smaller bench size and prize card count. These were cut down so that battles would be faster and more suited for mobile play. Decks have also been cut down, only allowing 20 cards each.
Pokemon TCG Pocket features new cards and expanded artwork of older ones. One of the cards showcased with new artwork is the original Slowpoke card from the Fossil Expansion, now featuring itself and a family of hand-drawn Slowpokes. It would be safe to assume that more retro cards will receive this treatment as the title ages.

Another major attraction of the game is its new immersive cards. These cards have a high rarity but hold a special cutscene video that can be played from the user's collection, showcasing more of the artwork each one holds. PIkachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, and Mew are the first four to get these cards.
Will Pokemon TCG Pocket feature microtransactions?
Pokemon TCG Pocket will feature various microtransactions, but the game does not appear to have pay-to-win mechanics. Poke Gold is the major premium currency that can be spent on premium cosmetics or be used to speed up the free booster pack timer.
