Pokemon GO announces October 2024 Community Day date, to spotlight Gen V Bug/Grass-type

Pokemon GO's latest Community Day, taking place on October 5, 2024, from 2 pm to 5 pm local time, will feature a Generation V Bug/Grass-type that some trainers may be curious about. Specifically, Sewaddle will be featured in October 2024's Community Day event, and since its final evolution, Leavanny has some PvP impacts, this could be an intriguing Community Day.

Even better, Sewaddle's Community Day in Pokemon GO will signify the first time that its shiny variant can be caught, which might be a compelling reason for players to seek out this Bug/Grass-type Pokemon if Leavanny's PvP implications aren't something they take much stock in.

Pokemon GO's Bug-types (even partial Bug-types) often get a bad reputation as being pretty useless by and large, but this isn't always the case. While Sewaddle itself isn't much to get excited about, its final evolution Leavanny is a different story entirely, and the October 2024 Community Day is an excellent opportunity to evolve at least one. But likely many more if trainers are willing to be diligent.

The Bug/Grass-type Leavanny has some significant upside in the Pokemon GO Great League while still having some niche applications in the Ultra League as well. Access to the quality Charged Attack Leaf Blade is a plus, especially since it can trigger the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) as Leavanny is a partial Grass-type Pokemon.

Access to a dual Grass and Bug-type move collection also means Leavanny can counter the Great League's Water and Grass-types, including the likes of Feraligatr, Gastrodon, Shadow Jumpluff, Serperior Shadow Quagsire, and more. Being able to use the spammy and reliable move Razor Leaf is also a sizable benefit in Leavanny's favor for PvP.

The downside is that although Leavanny benefits from a base Attack stat of 201, it's somewhat fragile with a base Defense of 165. Even so, if used in the right team composition, Leavanny should be able to deal some quality damage to Great League opponents (or even some Ultra League foes), especially when said opponents don't have access to their shields and are at the mercy of Leaf Blade.

All in all, Leavanny might not be a world-beater, but trainers who evolve a Swadloon into Leavanny during Sewaddle's Community Day can obtain a Leavanny that knows the Fast Attack Shadow Claw, a new addition to its repertoire that could open up even more capabilities in PvP. Furthermore, Leavanny is a solid PvE attacker in raids and elsewhere when using the moves Bug Bite and X-Scissor.

All in all, while Leavanny might not be compelling enough of an acquisition for some trainers, the prospect of adding a quality PvP fighter with PvE Bug-type offensive capability should be enticing, making the Sewaddle Community Day worth playing, especially if they can get a few Shiny Sewaddle in the process.
