Pokemon GO Dynamax debut might finally indicate Gen VIII Legendary Pokemon arrival
Pokemon GO's Max Out season aims to bring features from Galar into the popular mobile title. It has already added the region's iconic starters to the game, as well as the Dynamax mechanic from Pokemon Sword and Shield. However, many players have been wondering about the new Legendary Pokemon that lie on the horizon.
Recent datamines from the Silph Road subreddit have revealed that data for Eternatus, the tertiary Legendary Pokemon from the Galar region, is already embedded in Pokemon GO. Although the critter's arrival was expected due to the ongoing season’s theme, the early discovery of this information has generated significant buzz within the community.
Here’s what you need to know about Eternatus and its potential debut in Pokemon GO.
Is Eternatus coming to Pokemon GO?
Eternatus is expected to debut in Pokemon GO at some point in the future, but it is unclear when Niantic will deem it appropriate to do so. Two likely opportunities for its introduction are the 2025 GO Tour and GO Fest events. With 2024's GO Fest covering Alola, the region that was released prior to Galar, the critter's arrival during this event is much more likely.
The datamines from the Silph Road subreddit also indicate that both Eternatus' base stats and those for its Eternamax form are already in the game’s files. Eternamax is the exclusive version of Dynamax Eternatus that appears during the climax of Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Not only does this suggest that Eternatus will be featured as an ultimate Max Battle Raid Boss at some point in Pokemon GO's future, but it also shows that Niantic has interest in adding other Dynamax variants to the game. This means Gigantamax forms could soon be added to the title as well.
Eternatus has deep ties to Dynamax in franchise lore, having caused the Darkest Day in Galar's ancient history — a catastrophe that left behind energy sources allowing Pokemon to Dynamax. With the gimmick's presence in Pokemon GO, Eternatus is practically guaranteed to appear in the mobile game at some point.

Will Eternatus be good in Pokemon GO?
Eternatus will likely be one of the top performers in Pokemon GO's Master League when it debuts. Not only is it a Dragon-type Legendary, but it also has a secondary Poison typing that can help deal with the many Fairy-type critters that make their way into the league for the sole purpose of countering dragons.
While Eternatus' Eternamax form will be banned from participating in competitive battles, its base form has some serious potential.
Depending on the moves Niantic grants Eternatus, the Pocket Monster has the potential to be up in status with other notable meta-defining Legendaries like Dialga and Giratina.
