Pokemon GO Galarian Expedition Taken Over preparation guide

The second week of October is finally here and Pokemon GO's next half of the Galarian Expedition event is about to begin. Set to be live from Tuesday, October 8, at 12:00 am to Friday, October 11, 2024, at 8:00 pm local time, the Galarian Expedition Taken Over event will bring Team GO Rocket back into the game with updated rosters of Shadow Pokemon, as well as the iconic event bonus of being able to overwrite the Frustration charged attack.

Given that these types of events are not as common as Community or Raid Days, many players may not know much about Team Rocket Takeovers or how they can best prepare for them. Hence, we have put together a detailed guide for Pokemon GO players for the upcoming Galarian Expedition Taken Over event.

Since this second part of the Galarian Expedition event will overlap with the duration of the first, the event bonuses of the base Galarian Expedition event carry over to the second week. In addition, two new event bonuses will also be present:

  • Team GO Rocket will appear more frequently at PokeStops and in balloons
  • You can use a Charged TM to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration

Seeing Team GO Rocket more often will help players make Rocket Radars much faster. These items are important for challenging the three admins of the organization, which is required to complete the steps for the event's Special Research. This research path rewards players with a Super Rocket Radar, an item needed to encounter Giovanni.

Special Field Research tasks will also begin appearing from spinning Pokestops. These tasks will reward players with Fast and Charged TMs, as well as Mysterious Components used to construct Rocket Radars. These Field Research tasks are a crucial part of the event as they allow players to get more value from its bonuses.

Preparing for Pokemon GO's Galarian Expedition Taken Over event

Unlike other events, Team Rocket Takeovers like this one prioritize battling more than capturing Pokemon or completing raids. With this in mind, a stockpile of Pokeballs, Incenses, and Lure Modules will not be required. Instead, players should prioritize finding healing items like Potions and Revives.

These items can be found at Pokestops, even ones that are controlled by Team GO Rocket. With this in mind, players can typically keep a steady supply of these items by encountering Team GO Rocket members through their respective Pokestops, rather than solely relying on hot air balloons for their Rocket Grunt encounters.

There is also the grand prize of the event to consider: Shadow Heatran. This creature will be available after players take down Giovanni in a three-on-three battle. After beating his team, players will encounter Shadow Heatran and will need to catch it using Premier Balls with more or less of the item being available depending on the player's performance in the battle.
