Pokemon GO Mega Mawile Raid Day preparation guide
Mega Mawile is coming to Pokemon GO, debuting through the upcoming Mega Mawile Raid Day event. Set to take place on October 12, 2024, the Mega Mawile Raid Day will give many experienced raiders a challenge, but this Mega Evolution may not be as strong in battle as it may initially seem.
Mega Mawile was a serious threat in the main series thanks to its Huge Power ability, which doubles its attack stat. However, abilities are not present in Pokemon GO, making Mega Mawile rely more heavily on its defensive assets, which may prove to be a challenge for those who want to take it down. Here is everything players should know when preparing for this upcoming event.
Benefits of Pokemon GO's Mega Mawile Raid Day event
The Mega Mawile Raid Day will also come with its fair share of bonuses to make the raiding experience easier for players across the globe. The number of remote raids players can compete in during the event will increase to a maximum of 20, giving players plenty of opportunities to find a Mawile with great IVs.
Five additional free Raid Passes can be received by spinning the Photo Disk located at any raid location. These passes cannot be redeemed remotely, so players must use them for in-person encounters with Mega Mawile.
Finally, players have a heightened chance of encountering a Mawile in its shiny form after defeating its Mega Evolution in battle. The odds of doing so will be around 1 in 10.

Preparing to take on Mega Mawile in Pokemon GO
Mega Mawile is a Steel and Fairy-type Pokemon, so gearing up to take it down may prove a bit troublesome, as the two elements pair incredibly well in terms of their defenses. With both elements covering a fair number of each others' weaknesses, the best option players have left is Ground and Fire-type attacks.
With this in mind, here are some of the best counters players can use when challenging Mega Mawile during Pokemon GO's Mega Mawile Raid Day:
- Primal Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades
- Shadow Groudon with Mud Shot and Precipice Blades
- Mega Charizard Y with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Mega Blaziken with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Shadow Chandelure with Fire Spin and Overheat
- Mega Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earth Power
Of course, players will need tons of Raid Passes to make the most of this event. As mentioned previously, they can be found by spinning the Photo Disk at every raid location. Since players will be taking on a large amount of Raid Battles during this event, plenty of healing items like Potions and Revives should also be on standby.
These items can be found for free by visiting Pokestops, leveling up, purchasing them from the store in exchange for Pokecoins, and completing certain research tasks. They can help trainers keep their best battlers in peak condition.
