Pokemon GO Oranguru and Passimian Research day preparation guide
Players are getting ready to monkey around during Pokemon GO's upcoming Research Day event for Oranguru and Passimian. Not only will these rare Alolan primates be the ultimate prize for completing various research tasks during the occasion, but other Pocket Monsters will also be available in the wild.
Research Days are not as common in the game as other events like Hatch or Raid Days, so players may want to know more about this event before it goes live on September 22, 2024.
Here is everything trainers should know about the Oranguru and Passimian Research Day.
Everything to expect from Pokemon GO's Oranguru and Passimian Research Day
Oranguru and Passimian will be available during their Research Day in Pokemon GO. During this event, research tasks given out at PokeStops will grant players an encounter with one of the two apes upon completion.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that every Oranguru and Passimian encountered through this method will have an increased chance to appear in its shiny variant. Though the exact probability has not been revealed, it would be safe to assume that it is the same rate as Community Days, putting the odds at around 1 in 25.

There will also be a premium ticket players can purchase for $2 USD during the event. However, Niantic’s description of the event ticket on their webpage is somewhat unclear. It mentions that the ticket will only challenge players to complete more field research tasks rather than rewarding them with more opportunities to catch either Passimian or Oranguru.
Tips and preparation for Pokemon GO's Oranguru and Passimian Research Day
While Oranguru and Passimian are the main focuses of the upcoming Research Day, there are a variety of other monkey Pokemon that will be available in the wild during the event. Here are the creatures players can expect to see:
- Aipom
- Slakoth
- Grookey
- Mankey
- Chimchar
With most of these Pocket Monsters having some level of competitive or raiding viability, they are considerably more valuable that Oranguru and Passimian. As such, hardcore trainers who enjoy participating in raids or the Battle League will want to turn their attention more towards wild encounters rather than research tasks.
To gain the most value from this Research Day, players should stock up on Incenses, Lure Modules, and Pokeballs. These items can be found for free by leveling up or can be purchased from the shop in exchange for Pokecoins. Pokeballs should be the easiest to come by since they are given away in large amounts upon spinning photo disks and walking with Adventure Sync.
Lure Modules will be especially valuable since players will need to be near PokeStops anyways to retreive more research tasks. Since these items affect all players instead of just the user, they will also greatly help their local playerbase. This presents an excellent chance to make new friends who can assist in future Raid Battles.
