Pokemon GO Ponyta Community Day PvP and PvE guide

Pokemon GO Ponyta Community Day featuring both the Kantonian and Galarian variants of the creature is the first event of its kind to take place in the Max Out season. It will take place from 2 - 5 pm local time on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Some of the bonuses will last for five hours after the main event is over, bringing the whole celebration to an end at 10 pm local time.

Is the Pokemon GO Ponyta Community Day relevant from a PvP and PvE perspective?

Ponyta Community Day in Pokemon GO is relevant for PvP enthusiasts, but not so much for PvE fans. Kantonian and Galarian Rapidash (the evolved forms of Ponyta) are mid-picks in GO Battle League but benefit from the addition of Wild Charged to their move pools. This change has little to no impact on the PvE side.

You should prioritize hunting good PvP IVs for Ponyta to evolve into Rapidash for the Ultra League of GBL, where it performs the best. As for Galarian Ponyta, look for the best Great League PvP IVs as limited metas like the Psychic Cup is where it is expected to shine the brightest.

Brief Analysis of Wild Charge Rapidash and Galarian Rapidash in Pokemon GO

PvP

With Electric coverage, Kantonian Rapidash (a Fire-type) can pick up important wins in the Great and Ultra League against Flying-types and some Water-types. In the latter, the wins are remarkable enough for the creature to become usable—even if it doesn't attain meta status.

Galarian Rapidash has more limited use of Wild Charge. In the Psychic Cup, Mega Horn is the way to go as a means to hurt opposing Psychic-type critters. The only scenario Wild Charge outclasses is against Steel-types, which resist all other moves the Galarian Rapidash can learn.

PvE

When using either Rapidash for Gym battles — do not use them in raids if you can help — having Wild Charge will not make a difference in most cases. As a Gym Defender in Pokemon GO, Kantonian Rapidash with Wild Charge can take a few Water-types for a ride, but this won't net you any spectacular benefits.
