Pokemon GO Yamask and Galarian Yamask Research Day preparation guide

Research Days in Pokemon GO are special events that occur rarely, making them a unique experience compared to the more regular Community Days and special Raid Days. During Research Day, players will have access to special research in their missions tab, and completing these will grant them access to some elusive featured Pocket Monsters.

The latest iteration of Pokemon GO Research Day features Yamask and Galarian Yamask. The research commences on October 19, 2024, and will remain active from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time.

This article lists everything that all trainers should know to prepare for the Pokemon GO Yamask and Galarian Yamask Research Day.

Yamask and its Galarian variant are the featured critters for the current Pokemon GO Research Day. During this event, trainers will be able to get special tasks or missions by spinning PokeStops. Completing these missions will grant them encounters with the Yamask or Galarian Yamask, depending on the mission.

As with all research days, both Yamask and its Galarian variant will have boosted Shiny appearance rates. Although the exact boost remains unknown, it can be speculated to be as close as 1-in-25 for all encounters. This is the same boost that players normally encounter during the Pokemon GO Community Days.

During this event, players will also be able to purchase a premium Research Ticket for $2 (or its equivalent in your region). This will unlock additional Timed Research tasks, that will further grant more encounters with Yamask and Galarian Yamask. However, since these are timed researches, they must be completed within the stipulated time or else you can risk losing them altogether.

The main features of this Pokemon GO Research Day are Yamask and Galarian Yamask, however, trainers will also see boosted spawn rates for the following wild encounters:

  • Cubone
  • Zigzagoon
  • Galarian Zigzagoon
  • Duskull
  • Shieldon

While these Pokemon are not that special, Cubone and Shieldon are definitely ones that you should look out for. Their final evolutions, Marowak and Bastiodon, perform well in the Great Leagues, and you could benefit greatly by capturing them and earning some much-needed candies for them.

Additionally, you should stock up on Inceses, Lure Modules, and various PokeBalls to effectively complete the Research Day. Most of these items can be obtained by spinning PokeStops, but you will also be able to buy them from the shops in exchange for PokeCoins.

Since the featured Pokemon also come in their Shiny variants, having a significant number of Lure Modules will be highly beneficial for capturing them, whether for Battle League usage or simply to enhance your collection. Lure Modules will also allow you to complete Research Tasks more easily, making them a must-have for this Research Day event.

PokeBalls are a no-brainer, and you would need a lot of them to catch all the ones that appear. Great Balls and Ultra Balls can also aid you if you happen to find a critter of higher CP, or one that boasts great IVs.
