Pokemon Horizons Episode 64 recap: The Explorers Return

Pokemon Horizons Episode 64 aired on September 6, 2024, in Japan, and it appears the sinister recurring villains known as the Explorers have returned once more after only sporadic appearances in the Terastal Debut arc. Liko encounters Amethio and Spinel, leading to a difficult situation, while Coral and Sidian drop their Naranja Academy disguises and attempt to go after Roy and Dot.

An interval after the confrontation with the Black Rayquaza, Horizons' villains seem to have caught our heroes in another difficult bind, and even the transformed power of Terapagos might not be enough to help. Whatever the case, to examine these events as they transpired, it's worth breaking them down in a Pokemon Horizons Episode 64 recap.

After Liko's defeat by Grusha in Pokemon Horizons Episode 63, our heroes attempt to depart the Glaseado Mountain range, but Liko is still upset that she failed her Terastal Training implementation test against Grusha while Roy and Dot succeeded with theirs. Meanwhile, a Beheeyem watches the group of kids from afar as the explorer Spinel surveils our heroes in a nearby van.

Spinel is speaking on his Rotom Phone to Chalce, who suggests that Spinel intercept Liko, Roy, and Dot before they reach Naranja Academy, and she also points out that Amethio has spotted Spinel and is headed toward him. The latter says it's understandable, as the Explorer scion is likely curious about what Spinel was doing at the Exceed Corporation in Pokemon Horizons Episode 54.

Meanwhile, our Pokemon Horizons heroes notice a sign pointing toward the Glaseado Mountain summit, the highest point in the entire Paldea region. Roy wants to visit the summit, and Dot wants to leave, and both ask Liko for the tiebreaker on what the group should do. Ultimately, despite worrying her friends are trying too hard to cheer her up, Liko agrees to travel to the summit.

As the kids climb the rocky passes to the summit, they pass a strange snowy rock that is glowing purple, apparently due to Chalce's Medicham using its psychic powers on it, likely for surveillance of some sort. Meanwhile, Amethio flies overhead on his Corviknight and notices Spinel's surveillance van. Spinel and his Umbreon leave the van and Amethio follows him quietly.

Roy and Dot realize that they got too far ahead of Liko and decide to head back to find her, but she realizes that she's lost on the mountain and encounters Amethio instead, who had decided to continue following Spinel on foot. Wasting no time, Amethio sends out his Ceruledge to defeat Liko and steal Terapagos as he vowed to earlier in Pokemon Horizons. Liko and Floragato take battle positions.

Liko realizes that she hasn't faced Amethio's Ceruledge since she met Roy in Pokemon Horizons, but believes that she's much stronger and more capable now. Floragato performs well against Ceruledge, but Amethio decides to Terastallize Ceruledge to boost its Ghost-type powers. Liko begins to recall her loss against Grusha's Terastallized Altaria, and Ceruledge moves to knock out Floragato.

Before it can deal the decisive blow, Ceruledge is stopped by Spinel's Umbreon. Spinel emerges and Amethio accuses him of wanting to wait as Amethio and Liko were both worn down. Spinel plays coy, instead noticing Terapagos and deciding to open a container with a pink crystal, saying he wanted to show Liko the "Eternal Blessing". The crystal releases a pink cloud around Spinel's Umbreon.

Umbreon immediately responds to the gaseous cloud, stiffening its fur and appearing to grow angry and sporting a pink aura. Terapagos jumps from Liko's bag and notices the pink crystal, shuddering in fear. Spinel orders his Umbreon to rampage, and it immediately knocks out Ceruledge. Terapagos, after staring at the crystal a while longer, transforms into its Stellar Form once again.

Terapagos cries out, and the crystal disappears. Umbreon loses its rampaging state, and Terapagos immediately transforms back into its base form and passes out. Liko collects the legendary Pokemon as Spinel looks on in astonishment before recalling his Umbreon which has also collapsed from exhaustion. Spinel says he has the information he needs and leaves, thanking Liko.

Amethio and Ceruledge chase to find out what the Pokemon Horizons villain is really up to as Liko and Floragato attempt to follow behind. All three groups enter a rocky cave, and Liko finds Amethio again, asking what he knows about what happened to Terapagos. Amethio ignores her and presses on, but realizes he's lost track of Spinel, who has teleported out of the cave with Beheeyem.

Outside, Chalce speaks with Spinel, who says his experiment went well. He notes that Terapagos doesn't seem to resonate with Lakurium, theorizing that the strange crystal substance and Terapagos are opposed. The two then share the hope that Amethio will be lost forever in the cave so they can save the future of the Explorers despite getting rid of their leader's grandson.

The Pokemon Horizons episode then shifts to Friede and Captain Pikachu, the former of which is taking a call from Roy and Dot that they can't find Liko. Friede agrees to help on the back of his Charizard and Cap jumps on his shoulder, ready to go. Before leaving, Friede calls the Glaseado gym. As Roy and Dot hope to search for Liko themselves, they're approached by two individuals.

Amethio and Liko realize they're caved in, and Ceruledge isn't strong enough to remove the rocks in its path. Terapagos leaps from its bag after awakening, prepared for another fight with Amethio. Meanwhile, Roy and Dot are confused when they realize that "Sandwich" and "Onigiri", their classmates, are the Explorers Coral and Sidian in disguise, who then dive into battle.
