Top 5 Water-type cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket (November 2024)
Pokemon TCG Pocket has been available for mobile platforms for a quite some time now, and players across the globe have begun to experiment with the title's competitive metagame. Unlike the physical card game, TCG Pocket has significantly less cards and a smaller deck size as of writing. This leads to some unexpected cards seeing great success.
One of the elements players can build their decks around is Water. This is also one of the few elements to have a supporter card to give some extra assistance.
Here are five of the best Water-type cards players can put in their decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Ranking the 5 best Water-type cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket
5) Vaporeon
Vaporeon is an incredibly hard Pocket Monster to take down in the current state of Pokemon TCG Pocket. While its damage is pretty lackluster, only dealing 60 damage for 3 energies, the creature's only attack has the secondary effect of healing itself for 30 HP with each use.
Pairing this with Potion cards can make Vaporeon an incredibly bulky wall for the early game (if players can get it on the field quickly). Evolving from the colorless Eevee, its pre-evolved form can also be used effectively in Water-type decks.

4) Greninja
Greninja is one of the more unique Starter Pokemon available in the game at the moment. While its damage and bulk are relatively low, it has the utility of being able to hit any opposing Pocket Monster on the field for 20 damage thanks to its ability, Water Shuriken.
This, paired with its low retreat cost, makes Greninja the perfect choice for taking down weakened targets hiding on the bench after retreating. Since the power to hit targets on the bench is available through Greninja's ability, it can still make an attack in the same turn.
Water Shuriken also targets any opponent on the field, meaning users can hit the opposing active Pocket Monster with Greninja's ability and its move in the same turn.

3) Starmie ex
Starmie ex is not a fancy card with a special secndary effect. It also doesn't make use of any gimmick.
Starmie ex has become incredibly popular, thanks to its high power and low energy cost. Its Hydro Splash move deals 90 damage for only 2 Water energies.
Starmie ex is also one of the few cards to not have a retreat cost. This means it is incredibly easy to take it out of a scary situation and save it for a weakened target. With 90 base damage, the Pocket Monster is capable of one-shotting some evolved cards and most basic creatures.

2) Omastar
Omastar takes a fair bit of work to get on the field. Since it is a Fossil Pokemon, players will need to evolve it from its very beginning stage as a Helix Fossil. However, the Pocket Monster has the best form of debuff in Pokemon TCG Pocket. It can outright prevent its target from attacking on the opponent's next turn.
Unlike other cards like Pidgeot, Grapploct, or Sabrina that switch out the opponent for free, Omastar puts them in a bit of a sticky situation.
After being hit by Omastar, players are left with the choice of leaving their active creature in to take another blow or paying the retreat cost to switch it out into another card.

1) Articuno ex
Articuno ex is arguably the most popular card in Pokemon TCG Pocket right now, and for good reason. Unlike other cards that can select a target on the opponent's bench, this Pocket Monster deals damage to all of them. With every use of its Blizzard attack, every opposing creature on the bench takes 10 damage.
While this may not sound that impactful, a minimum of 10 damage on every creature is very hard to ignore, especially in the current state of the game, where bulky cards and healing is scarce.
