When is Morpeko coming to Pokemon GO?
Niantic has just announced the first part of Pokemon GO's Halloween celebration this year. During the opening half of the event, Morpeko will debut in the game. An iconic Pikachu-like rodent that is a staple for every region, Morpeko hails from Galar, the main focus of the mobile title's Max Out season.
Much like the main series, Morpeko will have both of its forms available in Pokemon GO, but they are not seperate creatures like many players may have suspected. Players can get their hands on this creature at the start of the Halloween event set to begin on October 22, 2024.
Tips for finding Morpeko when it comes to Pokemon GO
Morpeko will be available to catch from encounters earned by winning matches in Pokemon GO's Battle League. Thankfully, there will be many ways for players to encounter this creature outside of competitive play during the Halloween festivities, the easiest of which is through event-themed field research.
The timed research will host research tasks that will reward players with a Morpeko encounter. A paid research ticket will also be available for $5 USD that can reward trainers with Morpeko encounters. This paid research will even grant players encounters with costumed variants of different creatures, as well as a Morpeko onesie for their avatar.
Unfortunately for shiny hunters, Morpeko's shiny variant will not be available during its debut in Niantic's mobile game. It will come to the title at a later date, with no official word from the developer as to when this will be.

Will Morpeko be good in Pokemon GO PvP?
The biggest draw to Morpeko is its ability to change form in battles against other players and NPC trainers.
Morpeko changes from its Full Belly to Hangry modes whenever it uses a charged attack. This pairs with its signature charged attack Aura Wheel, which does either Dark- or Electric-type damage depending on the mode the creature is currently in.
This grants Morpeko incredible adaptability, essentially giving it an additional charged attack for free. However, it is unclear if this is enough for the tiny beast to make much of an impact in the competitive scene. While having a great moveset definitely helps, stats are also a huge component in determining a creature's viability.
Since Morpeko's defense and HP stats are identical in the main series, it would be safe to assume this will remain consistent in Niantic's mobile game. The Pocket Monster's highest stat will likely be its attack.
Glass cannons do not perform well in the Great League, the tier where Morpeko will most definitely be restricted to due to its low combat power. Ground-type critters are also abundant in the Great League, which spells certain doom for Galar's resident mouse.
