Why are Pokemon GO players upset with Dynamax Pokemon?

Pokemon GO's Max Out season is finally here, and the release of the new Dynamax Pokemon is right around the corner. Despite the addition of a new gimmick being something the community has desired for a while now, some new information regarding the mechanic that was released has left many players disappointed.

There are a few different reasons why players are not happy with how Dynamax is being handled in Pokemon GO. Thankfully, these issues have some simple solutions that Niantic can implement to keep the playerbase happy.

The current problems with Dynamax in Pokemon GO

The main issue with Dynamax is that only creatures released through these Max Raid Battles can use the feature. This means that the raiding Pokemon that players have spent years and countless resources maxing out are now practically useless in these Max Battles since they cannot Dynamax.

This could be fixed by Niantic introducing the Max Soup item. In the main series, this item is given to a Pokemon to unlock its Gigantamax form. However, in Pokemon GO, this item could be obtained as a reward for completing high-tier Max Battles and given to any creature to unlock its potential to Dynamax.

Another issue many players have with Dynamax Pokemon is that, unlike any other creature in the game, these Dynamax forms require candies and stardust to power up the damage of their moves. Given how drastically different this is from the other gimmicks in the mobile game, some players may be put off from maxing out their Dynamax Pokemon. It will also cost way more resources to do so.

This is an issue that would be much harder to fix. Since upgrading moves is integrated directly into the mechanic, it would most likely require an entire rework to sort this problem out. Unfortunately, trainers are stuck having to invest a much larger amount of resources into maxing out these Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO compared to standard monsters.

The problem with Power Spots in Pokemon GO

Many trainers have also noticed some strange inconsistencies with the Power Spots across the map. These locations house Max Battles. The strange thing about these waypoints is that they are appearing in locations like people's backyards and fire stations. The latter of the two is the most concerning to audiences as this goes against Niantic's waypoint guidelines.

Luckily, this is an issue that can be fixed within a few patch updates, as these Power Spots were most likely assigned by AI using data from other Niantic titles, or through user-submitted Pokestop requests. Nevertheless, Dynamax Pokemon do not seem to be worth the trouble at the moment, but this could change with the introduction of a few quality-of-life updates down the line.
