Are the Banana Pudding Oreos real or fake? Viral picture debunked
A viral social media post has got people thinking that Banana Pudding Oreos are real. On Saturday, October 19, a Facebook account that went by 'Authentic You' released a post showcasing what looked like an advertisement for 'Banana Pudding Cake' Oreos.
The picture on the cookie's packaging showed a Banana pudding alongside a golden cookie with white cream. The post was captioned:
"I’ll take banana pudding over peach cobbler"
At the time of writing this article, the post had over 17,000 likes, 1,400 comments, and over 7,300 people sharing the post. A slew of Facebook users looked forward to the release of the cookie, which they thought was real.
However, the post is not real and Banana Pudding Oreos do not exist. No information on the cookies is available on the official website of the cookie manufacturer. Furthermore, a Facebook 'AI Info' label added underneath the post stated that content in the post "may have been created with AI". The Facebook label explained:
"This is based on a signal added by the tool used to create the content. This signal typically identifies content that was entirely AI-generated instead of content that was only modified with AI"
This is not the first time Banana Pudding Oreo claims went viral. Back in June of this year, musician and Instagram influencer Darrion Da Don, who commanded over 531,000 followers on the platform, took to Instagram and reacted to a similar image of the fake cookie, this time with a yellow packaging.
The content creator wanted to know exactly what kind of Banana pudding was being used to flavor the cookies. He assumed that this was not going to taste how people thought it was going to. He exclaimed:
"This gonna make my big toe bigger, this gonna make my bottom lip hang lower, my neck is gonna be down on my shoulders,"

Despite Banana Pudding Oreos not being a reality, the cookie manufacturer has launched a variety of exciting and unique flavors over the years. Here are some of the special flavors introduced by the cookie manufacturer.
Hot Chicken Wing
This particular flavor was introduced back in 2018 and was only available in China. However, some domestic customers still got their hands on them, courtesy of eBay. A 2019 review for the cookies on Impulsive Bay stated that the cookies had an "expected salty, fake chicken" flavor that did not work "at all" with the chocolate cookie.
Wasabi
Another 2018 offering from the cookie manufacturer, uniquely made for China, this cookie had a green filling that resembled the popular Japanese horseradish condiment famous for its spice, Wasabi.
According to an Impulsive Bay review, the cookies first gave out a chocolaty taste but the wasabi with just a "tinge of heat" managed to grace tastebuds immediately after.
Firework
Moving away from China to the United States, this flavor was created in the spring of 2017 to commemorate that year's Fourth of July. Although the cookies featured the manufacturer's signature vanilla creme, this time it was sprinkled with blue and red popping candies. A Food & Wine report regarding the cookies read:
"Oreos are darn good alone and popping candy is just a fun new way to enjoy them even more."
Swedish Fish
One of the more outlandish cookie flavors on the list, these cookies were the product of Nabisco's 2016 collaboration with the fish-shaped, chewy candy manufacturer, Swedish Fish, originally developed by Swedish candy producer Malaco. The product didn't exactly become a fan favorite, with a thrillist reviewer liking the taste of the product to cough syrup in 2016.
Cotton Candy
Cotton Candy flavored Oreos were a big fan favorite. Originally released in 2015, the cookies were re-introduced years later in 2023. The cookies featured golden Oreos and a pink and blue cotton candy-flavored Double Stuf layer creme.
However, as mentioned earlier, Banana Pudding Oreos do not exist and the viral Facebook post associated with the product is AI-generated.
