"Disaster of an answer"- Internet reacts to Trump telling a non-English-speaking voter how immigrants are ruining the country

On October 16, 2024, Donald Trump participated in a town hall in Florida hosted by Spanish-language TV Univision, wherein a non-English speaking voter asked the former president if he truly believed his claim that immigrants were eating pets.

The non-English speaking voter referred to the former president's claim for ABC's presidential debate against Kamala Harris on September 10, 2024, wherein the former president stated:

"In Springfield, they are eating the dogs. The people that came in, they are eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there."

According to CNN, while responding to the voter's question, Donald Trump said that he "was just saying what was reported" and that immigrants were also eating other things that they aren't supposed to. Without sharing his sources, he stated he was quoting "newspapers."

The clip of the non-English-speaking voter's interaction with the former president went viral, and internet users quickly reacted to the same via X (formerly Twitter). The former president also mentioned that most migrants in Springfield don't speak English and are looking for interpreters, stating that they were destroying the country. Criticizing the former president's answer, an X user tweeted:

"Disaster of an answer. Imagine telling someone using a translator that people that don’t speak the language are destroying communities."
"Man asks Trump, in Spanish and through interpreter why he is demonizing immigrants. Trump: People who don’t speak the language and need interpreters are ruining the country," an X user mentioned.
"‘I was just saying what was reported’ - I was just saying what some idiot posted on Twitter 🙄," another X user commented.

Moreover, internet users also commented on how resorting to bizarre arguments is what the former president often does when questions are asked:

"Classic! Trump often resorts to these bizarre talking points to deflect from his own shortcomings or avoid more substantial topics," an internet user said.
"trump nodding like he knows what he’s saying has me crying bro😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭" another internet user stated.

"They have to love our country"- Donald Trump comments on undocumented immigrants

Apart from standing firm on his claim about what immigrants consume, the Republican nominee also discussed the potential effects of mass deportation during the town hall in Florida. The former president interacted with a farmer at the Univision town hall about the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, which he has promised to carry out if re-elected as president.

The farmer said that for several years he worked with hands "hunched over picking strawberries and cutting broccoli" which was usually done by undocumented people. He asked the former president about the potential consequences of deporting these people and what it would do to the cost of food.

Responding to the same, the former president said that farmers were struggling recently and that African Americans and Hispanic people were losing jobs due to the influx of millions of people into the country. Allegeging that undocumented immigrants coming across the border are drug dealers, terrorists, and murderers, Donald Trump said:

“We want workers, and we want them to come in, but they have to come in legally. They have to love our country. They have to love you, love our people."

In other news, the 60th quadrennial presidential elections of the United States are scheduled to be held on November 5, 2024. Moreover, CNN reported that they are organizing a townhall for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on October 23
