Fact Check- Is 24 Dark Horizon starring Kiefer Sutherland releasing on Hulu in December 2024? Viral poster debunked
Reports related to the arrival of a new season for the series 24 have been going viral on different platforms. The rumors emerged from a Facebook post and were later found fake.
Notably, a photo of the new installment, titled Dark Horizon, was shared through the social media page of Yoda BBy Aby on October 24, 2024. The caption stated that Kiefer Sutherland would return to play the role of Jack Bauer in the series, adding that it is premiering in December this year through Hulu and Fox.
Furthermore, the post also mentioned:
“Facing a global cyberterrorist threat that could plunge the world into chaos, Jack must navigate treacherous alliances and a shadowy enemy from his past. Time is running out, and once again, every second counts.”
The post's comments section was flooded with different reactions, with some of them addressing their excitement for the upcoming season alongside a few calling it one of the best shows they have seen over the years.
However, the report was revealed to be false since the biography of the Facebook page says that they are “100% satire” and focus on “fake news.” The timeline of the entire account is full of other false news related to other projects, including a sequel to Gone in 60 Seconds, which featured Nicolas Cage in the lead.
24 was one of the longest-running TV shows where Kiefer Sutherland portrayed Jack Bauer, a US counter-terrorist federal agent. It was later adapted in India and Japan.
Kiefer Sutherland had previously expressed his interest to return in a revival of 24
The action-drama series ended back in 2010, and it led to two spin-offs and a film. While the makers have not confirmed a new season over the years, Kiefer Sutherland addressed the same while speaking to Entertainment Weekly in March last year.
The actor praised the creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran for bringing a unique theme to the audience through 24. He said they can continue the franchise if they want to since the makers of Star Trek also “started morphing into something different.” Sutherland also stated:
“I was grateful to have had the opportunity. If I get to do something else with it, I would certainly jump at that. But if it were to simply grow into something else, I would be its champion there as well, because I think the story is such a good idea.”
On the other hand, a report by Variety in July this year claimed that 20th Century Studios was working on a new film adaptation of 24. Brian Grazer, co-founder of Imagine Entertainment, also discussed the same while appearing on CNBC's Squawk Box.
On the show, Grazer said that his company has always focused on working on projects that can be successful on the big screen. He continued by saying:
“It’s great for us, because we’ve built, over 30 years, over 100 different products and brands, whether it’s ‘Backdraft’, which I’m now going to do today with Glen Powell, or whether it’s ‘24’, a movie that we’re going to do in a very interesting way with Disney and Fox.”
The first film adaptation, Redemption, also featured Sutherland playing the lead role. It came out back in 2008 and was released through Fox.
