Fact Check: Was Trump sitting on a towel during Fox & Friends interview? Viral claim debunked

On Friday, former President Donald Trump appeared on Fox & Friends for an interview. While he touched upon several topics like the Al Smith charity dinner and criticized Kamala Harris on the chat show, what caught netizens' attention was that he appeared to be sitting on a black towel, as per some posts on social media.

Several internet users took to X and mocked the ex-President for apparently sitting on a towel during the interview. A tweet shared by a user (@CoffeyTimeNews) appeared with a caption that read:

"I love how Fox had the foresight to lay a black towel on the white couch just in case Trump sh*t himself during the interview..."

The tweet was viewed more than 3 million times and reposted over 7,200 times. Other netizens questioned the authenticity of the photos and videos of him sitting on the towel. A user (@suzGRecruiter) commented:

"Is this real or AI generated?"

However, it is worth stating that the rumors are false and must be debunked. Trump wasn't actually sitting on a black towel. While it appeared to be a black cloth, it was not a towel. Times Now also reported that in several clips, it even seemed like a jacket.

Several X users also tried to clarify that it was his jacket and not a towel that the former president was sitting on.

Former President Donald Trump complained about Fox News while sitting for the chat show interview on Friday

Shortly after Kamala Harris' much-viewed Fox News interview on October 16, Donald Trump made an appearance on a Fox News chat show on Friday. One of the statements made by him that caught massive attention was when he casually mentioned that the network shouldn't approve any "negative ads" against him until after the elections.

He then went on complaining about the network to the hosts. Co-host Steve Doocy referred to Ainsley Earhardt and tried to play a clip from the ex-president's interview on the show back in 2017. Doocy said:

"We’re gonna get in the wayback machine, Mr. President. We’re gonna play that for you, and then we’re gonna update the question."

To this, Trump responded, saying:

"But you know the difference. In the old days, you never played negative ads. In other words, when I leave here, I’ll then be hit by five or six ads, and in the old days…"

The complaints from the former president arrived shortly after he took to Truth Social and bashed network CEO Suzanne Scott. He claimed that the network gave airtime to left-leaning commentators. In the Truth Social post shared on Thursday, he wrote:

"Why does Suzanne Scott of FoxNews keep putting on third rate ‘talking heads’ like Jessica Tarlov, Richard Fowler... and other Radical Left Lunatics that... make up statements, with Fox, rarely having any counter to their storytelling?"

As for the current rumor related to the interview, it received massive attention from netizens and the audience. The interview happened just a little over two weeks before the presidential elections to be held on November 5, 2024.
