“He is not of Native American descent” — Internet reacts as Trump plans to end automatic U.S. citizenship for future children of immigrants

Last year, Donald Trump announced his Day 1 plan to secure the border and now after his election victory, social media had a lot to say about the policy. In a video shared with X, the future 47th President of the United States announced that he would issue an executive order to end birthright citizenship for undocumented immigrant children. He said:

"As part of my plan to secure the border on Day 1, in my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship."

He added:

"It's things like this that bring millions of people to our country, and they enter our country illegally."

Current social media reactions to the president's 2023 proclamation were mixed. Some users vehemently opposed the President-elect's plans. One X user who went by @abohisham179962 said on the platform:

"Trump's family is American of German and Scottish descent, but he is not of Native American descent. Trump returns with his family to Germany."

Similar reactions followed as netizens claimed that the President-elect did not have the authority to do what he was promising. Several people felt that the president would defy the 14th Amendment of the Constitution if he put his plans into action. Here are a few X reactions to the future president's proclamation:

"The President can’t do this. The Constitution specifically states those born in America are American citizens. The President can’t unilaterally change the Constitution.", thought one X user.
"How is this possible, if it’s the 14th amendment? 🤔", asked another user.
"So the 14th amendment is garbage now? I thought conservatives liked the constitution? It’s wild that republicans say they love our constitution and then want to change it constantly.", asked yet another netizen.

However, a slew of other X users were fans of the future president's proclamation:

"This is how it was always supposed to be.", proclaimed one X user.
"Good. It is ridiculous. People come here and have a baby just to get citizenship. Never did our Founders intend for that to happen.", thought one X user.
"WE ARE AT LEVELS OF BACK THAT WERE NEVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE!!!", said another user.
"Good..stuff will happen fast", thought yet another user.

"They come by the millions and millions and millions"- Donald Trump on undocumented immigration

Donald Trump's aforementioned proclamation was a part of Agenda 47 of his presidential campaign for 2024. In the video explaining Agenda 47 shared on social media last year, the president-elect claimed that Joe Biden launched an illegal foreign invasion of the country, allowing a record number of undocumented immigrants to "storm across" the borders. Trump said:

"Under Biden's current policies even though these millions of illegal border crossers have entered the country unlawfully, all of their future children will become automatic U.S citizens. Can you imagine?"

The former president noted that they will be eligible for healthcare, taxpayer-funded healthcare, the right to vote, "chain migration", and other government benefits, which will also profit "illegal alien parents. He added:

"This policy is a reward for breaking the laws of the United States and is obviously a magnet, helping draw the flood of illegals across our borders, they come by the millions and millions and millions."

The former president claimed that illegal immigrants came from mental institutions, and prisons, and were "some of the toughest. meanest people". He claimed that many scholars allegedly stated that the administration's current policy was based on a historical myth and a "wilful misinterpretation" of the law by advocates for open borders.

After explaining his Day 1 immigration policy as mentioned earlier, Trump explained that his policy would "choke off" a major incentive for continued illegal immigration, deter migrants from coming, and encourage those let in by Joe Biden to go back to their home country.

As per the future 47th President they "must" go back as it was unaffordable and immoral to stay.

Donald Trump also claimed that his policy would end the practice of "birth tourism", which, according to him was "so horrible" and "so egregious". Under the future 47th president's new policy, at least one parent would have to be a citizen or legal resident to qualify for green cards.
