“I am Puerto Rican” — Jennifer Lopez endorses Kamala Harris for president after Trump rally “garbage” comments

Jennifer Lopez is the latest addition to the list of celebrities endorsing Kamala Harris for president in the upcoming 2024 elections in the U.S. on November 5, 2024.

The Ain't Your Mama singer attended Kamala Harris' Las Vegas rally wherein she called out Donald Trump in a 15-minute address to the attendees and also slammed Tony Hinchcliffe for calling Puerto Rico "a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean".

In her speech endorsing Harris and referring to Hinchcliffe's comment at Trump's Madison Square Garden rally, Jennifer Lopez stated:

“I am Puerto Rican, and yes, I was born here, and we are Americans. I am a mother. I am a sister. I am an actor and an entertainer. And I like Hollywood endings. I like when the good guy, and in this case, the good girl wins.”

Lopez said that with an understanding of the past and faith in the future, she will be casting her ballot for Kamala Harris to be the next president of the United States.

"We should be emotional. We should be upset"- Jennifer Lopez mentions in speech endorsing Kamala Harris

In her speech endorsing Kamala Harris, Jennifer Lopez claimed that Donald Trump has constantly worked to divide everyone and that the former president reminded people "who he really is and how he really feels." The Dance Again singer mentioned that it wasn't only Puerto Ricans who got offended during Trump's Madison Square Garden rally held on October 27, 2024, but every Latino in the country as well.

During her speech, Lopez became emotional and told the crowd:

“We should be emotional. We should be upset. We should be scared and outraged. We should — our pain matters. We matter. You matter. Your voice and your vote matters.”

Jennifer Lopez shared that when she started in film and TV she could only get roles playing the "loudmouth Latina" or the maid, but she knew she had more to offer. Resonating the same emotion with others, Lopez said she thinks there are a lot of people in the country who feel the same way as she did, who know they are capable of more and just want a chance to prove it. The singer said that elections are "about choosing leaders who support that, not one who stands in the way.”

Additionally, Lopez addressed Trump and mentioned she's a lover, not a fighter. The singer said that she's not here to "trash anyone or bring them down" because she knows what that can feel like. She further added:

"I wouldn’t do it to my worst enemy, or even when facing the biggest adversary I think America has internally ever had. But over Kamala Harris’ entire career, she has proven to us who she is.”

Jennifer Lopez also compared her own upbringing to that of Kamala Harris stating she "gets it", putting forth points for addressing the Democratic nominee.

While Jennifer Lopez has recently extended her endorsement for Kamala Harris, the singer has been supportive of the Democrats. Lopez performed This Land is Your Land and America the Beautiful during Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony in January 2021.

In other news, the singer recently made headlines with her divorce from Ben Affleck wherein she listed April 26, 2024, as the date of separation. Moreover, JLo has also been a key name in the list of celebrities associated with Diddy post the rapper's arrest in September 2024. As per US Weekly, Diddy and Lopez dated from 1999 to 2001.
