"He’s trying NOT to be racist here" — Internet reacts to Trump saying he can only see Black people in South Carolina rally
Kamala Harris' Campaign (@KamalaHQ) shared a clip on X on October 20, 2024, that captured a part of Donald Trump's speech at his rally in South Carolina on February 24. In the video that immediately went viral with more than 2 million views and 5,000 reposts, the ex-President could be heard saying:
"These lights are so bright in my eyes I can't see too many people out there, but I can only see the Black ones, can't see any white ones. That's how far I've come. That's a long way, isn't it?"
His remarks became controversial and didn't sit right with many. Many users on X disapproved of the comments that the Republican candidate made. Here are some popular responses found on X:
"And just think / He's trying NOT to be racist here."
"A deeply uncomfortable comment. Moments like this reveal more about his perspective than any policy speech ever could..." A netizen commented.
"Imagine if Biden has said this… / so sick of the double standards," wrote another user.
"Eugh. He's getting harder and harder to watch." Added a tweet.
While so many people have been criticizing the comments, many users came in support of former President Trump.
"That is humor, something you will never understand." A user mentioned.
"And this is why black America loves him. He was speaking to them and they got the humor..." Added another tweet.
"He's so authentic. That's why we love him. ♥️" Wrote a netizen.
This wasn't the first time the ex-President was accused of passing racist remarks. During his 2016 presidential campaign, he referred Mexican immigrants as "r*pists." Then, in 2020, he said Haitian immigrants were "eating your pets," which again made him prone to these allegations.
Donald Trump recently visited North Carolina and further criticized the government's response to Hurricane Helene
While talking about Trump's recent statements at the rally in South Carolina, it is also to be noted that he had also made appearances in North Carolina after the massive Helene hurricane struck the areas there. The former President blamed the Democrat government for their alleged slow response to the disaster-struck areas where more than 120 people were killed.
On Sunday, October 20, the White House revealed that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had "approved more than $300 million in assistance across the state, including $118 million in individual assistance to more than 87,600 households."
Trump accused the Democrat government of responding slowly to the areas impacted by the hurricane. Both Biden and Harris had, however, rejected the allegations made against them. According to Joe Biden,
"There's been a reckless, irresponsible, and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies."
As for the recent statements by Trump in South Carolina, he has been scrutinized quite a bit on the internet.
The Presidential Elections will take place on November 5, 2024, and the candidates have been busy with the campaigns and other election preparations. Not just regular speeches in campaigns, but several celebrities endorsed their preferred candidates.
