"It's our friendship"— Dave Coulier comes to John Stamos' defense after bald cap controversy

Actor Dave Coulier shuts down negative comments and backlash regarding John Stamos wearing a bald cap to show support amid his cancer diagnosis. Stamos recently faced criticism after netizens took offense to Instagram photos he shared with Coulier, in which he wore a prosthetic bald cap despite seemingly good intentions.

Some netizens labeled Stamos' sharing of those pictures, including him shaving his former costar's head, as a "photo op," while others mocked him, claiming that real friend would've shaved their real hair off.

However, Coulier isn't tolerating any hate directed at his former Full House costar. He took to Instagram on Tuesday, November 19, to defend Stamos. He expressed his disappointment over the "bunch of negative comments" as he just started his cancer journey. He added:

"It's our friendship (me and John) and this is how we are handling a very tough time. I'm a comedian and humor is what drives me."

"John knows how to cheer me up and I laughed out loud when he arrived wearing a bald cap - being a true loving friend and brother."

Dave Coulier previously revealed that he has stage 3 lymphoma

In his interview with People, published on November 13, Dave Coulier revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He recalled having an upper respiratory infection in October, which led to swelling in his lymph nodes. After getting tested, he learned that he had "aggressive" cancer, adding:

"Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, 'We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and it's called B cell and it's very aggressive."

"This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey."

He also shared that after receiving the diagnosis, he sent a text message to his Full House castmates, including John Stamos. Coulier said that everyone's response "was immediate" and that he got an "outpouring" of support from them. The actor added:

"It really is overwhelming the love that we have for each other. We've been there for so many years for each other and it's pretty remarkable."

In his latest Instagram post defending the Doctor Odyssey star, Dave Coulier mentioned that many have reached out about going to their doctors and getting "mammograms, a colonoscopy, or a prostate exam." Besides his own recovery, he said that he is choosing to "spread the word about early detection to help people."
