"It’s genius"- Internet reacts to Kamala Harris renting Las Vegas' Sphere to promote her campaign
U.S. Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris displayed her campaign ad on the 580000 sq. ft Las Vegas Sphere ahead of her rally in Nevada on October 31. As per TMZ, the ad reportedly premiered on the Sphere on October 29, marking the first instance of the venue being used to advertise a political campaign.
The 90-second ad contained Kamala Harris's trademark campaign slogan,
"When we vote, we win."
It urged people to vote for Harris-Walz in the upcoming election, interspersed with pictures of the VP. According to The Independent, Harris's campaign team said:
“This is the first time a political campaign has ever activated on the Exosphere. Both in-person and online, the Sphere will reach millions of voters both in Nevada and across the country.”
Several netizens lauded Kamala Harris for utilizing the Vegas Sphere for her campaign ad, with one person tweeting:
"It’s genius a) because NV is close but even better b) the social media value."
Many added the ad looked very cool, claiming the Sphere was an amazing venue.
"It is cool looking. It also seems very dystopian," one person tweeted.
"It’s an Amazing venue - We always go Forward with Kamala Harris !" another person added.
"The Sphere is really cool to see on the Strip at night. Especially if you’re having dinner at The Strat Tower," someone else commented.
"Looks like the exact view from my Vegas timeshare. Beautiful!" another netizen wrote.
However, others were more critical of the concept, sarcastically claiming it looked "middle class" and pointing out the irony of the ad placement if Kamala Harris lost in Nevada during the election.
"This just screams “middle class”," one person wrote.
"Will be extra *chef's kiss* when Kamala loses Nevada," another person added.
"It’s clear the dems struggle in their messaging to connect," someone else tweeted.
"Vegas is for Trump. She wasted her money. I 100 percent know they are voting Trump," another user commented.
Kamala Harris delivered her "closing argument" in Washington D.C. on Tuesday
Before her appearance in Nevada, Kamala Harris gave her "closing argument" in Washington. D.C. to approximately 75,000 people on October 29. She spoke at The Ellipse, the same venue where Trump held a rally that reportedly incited the January 6 Capitol attacks in 2021.
Kamala Harris referenced his 2021 rally in her closing argument, saying:
"We know who Donald Trump is. He is the person who stood at this very spot nearly four years ago and sent an armed mob to the United States Capitol to overturn the will of the people in a free and fair election, an election that he knew he lost."
She added:
"America, we know what Donald Trump has in mind. More chaos. More division. And policies that help those at the very top and hurt everyone else. I offer a different path. And I ask for your vote."
Harris dubbed Trump "unstable", claiming he was trying to keep the American people divided while she hoped to do the opposite. She also said she was already willing to listen to experts, even if she disagreed with them, to help improve the lives of American citizens, unlike Trump, whom she claimed would go so far as to arrest people who disagreed with him.
Following this, Kamala Harris will address the people of Nevada on Halloween less than a week before the presidential election. Maná, the Mexican pop rock band, will join her in Nevada, one of the major swing states that will decide the fate of the 2024 election.
President Joe Biden overtook Republican candidate Donald Trump by a 2.5% margin in Nevada in the 2020 election, reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's victory over Trump in the same state in 2016.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump will campaign in Henderson, Nevada on October 31 ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
