"Kaitlyn Collins needs to be fired" — Internet reacts to CNN reportedly planning major layoffs to cut costs
According to a report by Puck News dated November 8, 2024, CNN is set to undergo mass layoffs by March 2025. This report came out following the news of anchor Chris Wallace quitting the media agency. Further, FOX News Digital reported on November 12 that these layoffs would affect employees at different levels in the company.
This decision by the media agency and CEO Mark Thompson has seemingly caused a sense of frustration among employees, as mentioned to FOX News Digital.
"I am overall very sad and deeply frustrated. Feelings which are pervasive throughout the organization among those who have been here a long time and feel a deep personal connection to having helped build the organization," stated one employee to the outlet.
Not only have employees responded to the news of mass layoffs, but netizens have also flooded the internet with their reactions. While talking about CNN employees who could be affected, people referred to Kaitlan Collins, who reportedly earns millions while being an anchor in the media agency.
A user (@SimplyElmer) took to X and wrote:
"Kaitlyn Collins needs to be fired. She's despicable."
Another user questioned:
"If a CNN reporter is fired that nobody ever listened to, were they ever a reporter?"
"The more CNN firings occur, the truer news becomes," stated a tweet.
"It sounds like someone needs to buy CNN and save it from itself. Ehemmm, @elonmusk," remarked another user.
Many users spoke about dropping Kaitlan from the team, as some claimed that it would be a good decision for the company. A user tweeted:
"I'll actually laugh when I see @kaitlancollins fired. She was one of the more egregious partisan hacks."
"Hey CNN…start with @kaitlancollins …she’s intolerable & such a rookie. Fox got rid of her for a reason," commented another one.
"Kaitlan Collins will be on the chopping block and good riddance," stated a netizen.
Apart from mass layoffs, cost-cutting measures would also reportedly be taken, as claimed by a CNN employee
On November 8, Puck News journalist Dylan Byers revealed the reported upcoming mass layoffs in the media company. As mentioned before, Byers claimed that several anchors from the media company are set to be fired. He additionally mentioned:
"In the next few months, I’m told [the media company] will implement another round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across the organization, including those whose TV production talents won’t necessarily be needed in the new digital-first landscape."
According to Puck News, the media company is also expected to undergo severe changes apart from the mass layoffs. Byers further reported that the employees who wouldn't be laid off would be required to take on many responsibilities that might be outside their usual job role.
According to FOX News Digital, this particular American media company has been significantly impacted lately, leading to its mass layoffs and other prominent changes. An employee apparently told the outlet that many shows would be produced from Atlanta, as the expensive ones being produced from New York City have been impacted horribly.
Despite many speculations about Kaitlan Collins getting fired, no official reports have been released yet confirming the same. Furthermore, CNN has not yet responded to the report by Puck News.
