Michelle Williams talks about not being able to attend the Kamala Harris rally with Beyonce and Kelly Rowland
Michelle Williams was noticeably absent from the Destiny's Child reunion of Beyonce and Kelly Rowland at the Kamala Harris rally on Friday, October 25. During the Tuesday, October 29, episode of Sherri, the singer explained why she missed the event.
It turns out that Williams was so busy that she couldn't make it to the event despite wanting to be there. She told the show's host, Sherri Shepherd:
"I was so happy, but at the same time, it was the first time that I had not been able to be in person for something that I, you know, wanted to be at. And that is a sacrifice we make [being on] Broadway."
While she might have missed the event, Michelle Williams mentioned that her Destiney's Child bandmates "represented and held [her] down in their own way."
Beyonce and Kelly Rowland made headlines when they made a stylish appearance during Kamala Harris' Texas campaign event, officially endorsing the presidential hopeful. They took turns addressing the audience at the Houston campaign rally before welcoming Harris onstage, with Beyonce's Freedom blasting from the speakers.
The duo looked professional and polished, with Beyonce opting for a figure-hugging double-breasted black blazer, while Rowland sported an oversized white and grey striped suit.
Michelle Williams revealed that Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and she is "together more than people think"
Destiny's Child's last studio album, Destiny Fulfilled, was released in November 2004, debuting at #2 on the Billboard charts. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a reunion, and they did get a few over the years. The most recent one was during Rowland's husband's 50th birthday in January, where they appeared to serenade the attendees with a musical number.
Before that, they shared the stage during Beyonce's headlining set at Coachella in 2018 to perform some of their greatest hits. That said, they don't share the stage often.
However, Michelle Williams revealed that Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, and she has been out numerous times, even if paparazzi don't picture them together. She said during the Sherri show:
"You get them [Beyonce and Rowlan] at dinner or something like, 'Where's Michelle?' [and] I'm like, 'Y'all, we ain't together all the time. Now, we are together more than people think."
Williams further explained that there are times that she couldn't make it to get-togethers with her former bandmates because they live in different states. Beyonce and Rowland live in Los Angeles, while Michelle Williams is based in Atlanta. She also had something to say to people always asking "Where's Michelle," whenever they see former Destiny's Child members together without her. She said:
"Hashtag I got stuff that prevents me from being at places y'all think I should be at."
Michelle Williams currently stars in the Broadway musical Death Becomes Her, her first original Broadway role. She plays Viola Van Horn in the musical, who is an existing character from the Death Becomes Her movie but was previously called Lisle von Rhuman. Leading the productions are Tony nominees and stage veterans Christopher Sieber, Jennifer Simard, and Megan Hilty.
The musical debuted with preview performances at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on October 23 and will officially open starting November 21.
