"Puerto Rican version of the Avengers joining forces"— Internet reacts to Ricky Martin, Bad Bunny and JLO's endorsement of Kamala
Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Ricky Martin have endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential bid on Sunday. The endorsement arrived after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made controversial comments about Puerto Rico and Latin American people at Donald Trump's Madison Square Garden rally on October 27.
The standup comedian called the Puerto Rican territory "a floating island of garbage" as he took the podium at MSG on Sunday. He passed some seemingly mocking remarks about "Latinos", claiming "they love making babies."
Tony Hinchcliffe's comment spurred severe criticism online. Soon after, Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin who hail from Puerto Rico, and Jennifer Lopez, who has Puerto Rican parents took to Instagram Stories and shared a video of Harris addressing issues concerning the territory.
Kamala Harris shared the video on Sunday, accusing Trump of not providing the necessary aid to the Puerto Rican people during Hurricane Maria in 2017. Benito posted this portion of the video on his IG stories thrice to highlight Harris' words. Martin wrote "I remember" as he shared the clip alongside another post by Harris where she promised to build a new "opportunity economy" task force for Puerto Rico.
Netizens soon shared their reaction to the three singers' endorsement of Harris. One X user drew a parallel with Marvel's Avengers:
"This is the Puerto Rican version of the Avengers joining forces to support Kamala Harris."
"I hope that pi**y pants little "comedian" just sank his campaign", wrote one X user, referring to Tony Hinchcliffe.
"Bad move Donald. Bad Move! The Republicans can't talk their way out of this one", said another.
"They really formed a whole a** spirit bomb with this. holy sh*t what a W", exclaimed one person.
"I'M HERE FOR THE LATIN EXPLOSION OF 2024!!" wrote one.
Several people noted how Tony Hinchcliffe's remark would rather negatively impact Trump's campaign.
"This is absolutely horrific. The pushback is going to be enormous and it starts here", said one X user.
"Puerto Rican celebrities giving us the most epic Avengers moment. Madam President, the stage is YOURS!!!" shared another user.
Kamala Harris shares the 'Harris-Walz Policy' for Puerto Rico
As Tony Hinchcliffe's remark about Puerto Rico caused a ruckus among the U.S. voters online, Kamala Harris addressed the Puerto Ricans through a video posted on her socials:
"There is so much at stake in this election, for Puerto Rican voters, and for Puerto Rico."
She continued:
"As President, I will bring down the cost of housing, invest in small businesses, and entrepreneurs, and fight to finally secure equal access to programs that strengthen the healthcare system, and support children, seniors, and working people."
Kamala Harris said in the new Puerto Rico "opportunity economy" task force, the federal government will work with the private sector, non-profit organizations, and community leaders. She revealed her plan to create well-paying jobs, especially for young people in Puerto Rico, and "foster economic growth".
At one point in the video, Kamala Harris said:
"I will never forget what Donald Trump did, and what he did not do when Puerto Rico needed a caring and a competent leader. He abandoned the island, tried to block aid after back-to-back devastating hurricanes, and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults."
Harris further accused Trump of having a dictatorial approach, adding "Puerto Ricans deserve better".
Kamala Harris shared her intended policy for Puerto Rico in a separate Instagram post, elaborating on the plans to "build a better future" for both the residents of the territory and Puerto Ricans living in the U.S.
The 2024 U.S. presidential election is to be held on November 5.
