"That is why Beyoncé didn’t sing on that rally" — Internet reacts to reports of Harris' campaign having to cancel Alanis Morissette due to low cash

The political landscape has been rocked by reports that Canadian singer Alanis Morissette had to withdraw her support for Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign after learning the campaign's check would not be clear.

On November 10, 2024, a user on X @BigFish3000 shared a clip of a news channel reporting that the Vice President's presidential campaign spent $20 million and landed in debt. The user captioned the clip suggesting that Alanis Morissette stopped her support for the Vice President.

As a result, many users on X sparked a wave of reactions across social media, including a flurry of commentary about Beyoncé not performing at the rally.

The rally referenced by users took place on October 25, 2024, during the Vice President's event in Houston. At the rally, Beyoncé took the stage and addressed the audience, emphasizing that, at that moment, she was representing both as a mother and a politician and not an artist, as per Reuters.

Many users on X humorously compared the Vice President's campaign to that of a young girl relying on a "daddy's credit card." Some commenters suggested that these celebrities were not genuinely endorsing Kamala Harris but instead saw her as a "cash cow."

"The Harris campaign was like a teenage girl with daddy's credit card. This is who the left wanted signing America's checks?" a user on X commented.
"Hysterical😂 This is plain proof that none of these celebrities and millionaires actually don't support her, they saw her as a cash cow from the hardworking American's piggy bank," a second user commented.
"This is hilarious. The check wouldn't clear. That sounds about right.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣," another commented.

Some users on X criticized both the 2024 and 2020 presidential campaigns. They described the 2020 race resembling a "game show" and labeled the 2024 campaign as an "entertainment cringe" with hired actors.

"The 2020 primaries were like a game show, elimination rounds and prizes for all participants. The 2024 campaign was just as entertainment-cringe with hired actors and I bet prizes were promised," one commented.
"The party "For the People" are also now being hoodwinked into paying the bills.. even more. Celebrity concerts weren't free 🤣🤣," another user commented.
"And who would have thought? It figures," a third wrote.
"Harris wanted to be in charge of our budget 😭🤣😂," a netizen commented.

As online reactions unfold, neither Kamala Harris nor Beyoncé has publicly addressed the responses.

Analyzing Kamala Harris' presidential campaign performance

In a November 2024 report by The Hill, Democratic National Committee (DNC) official Lindy Li referred to Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign as a "one billion dollar disaster" following her November 5, 2024 election loss.

During an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend on November 9, 2024, Li claimed the Vice President was in debt.

"The truth is this is just an end epic disaster, this is a $1 billion disaster. They're $20 million or $18 million in debt. It's incredible, and I raised millions of that. I have friends I have to be accountable to and explain what happened because I told them it was a margin-of-error race," Li said.

Discussing campaign finances, Li suggested that the Vice President ran her campaign with a strong message of victory, which led many supporters to believe in her success and contribute substantial donations.

"She even put videos out saying Harris would win. I believed her, my donors believed her, and so they wrote massive checks. I just feel like a lot of us were misled," Li added.

President-elect Donald Trump did not refrain from mocking his opponent. On Saturday, November 9, Trump took to his X account and suggested that he was shocked to know that the Democratic party is in debt now.

"I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn't have lots of $'s left over," Trump wrote.

According to the NY Post, the Democratic Party raised over $1 billion in four months. Neither Kamala Harris nor her team have commented on the reports regarding the campaign's alleged debt.
