"What happened to menopause" — Internet reacts to viral TikTok of woman pregnant at 64 arguing with baby daddy over child support
A viral TikTok video of a 64-year-old pregnant woman disclosing the news of her pregnancy to the father has caused quite a stir on the internet. Famous TikTok personality Suni (@Suni_Palms) dropped a bombshell when she posted the video of her 64-year-old mother chatting with the doctor about her unexpected pregnancy.
A while later, she posted the video of her mom breaking the news of her pregnancy to the unborn baby's father. The two-minute conversation inside a car has swept the internet with opinions ranging from concern to curiosity to over-the-top reactions and jokes.
Some popular comments on X are:
"Wait what happened to menopause I'm thoroughly confused," interrogated a fan on X.
"You can get pregnant during menopause, especially during perimenopause. It's not likely but a lot of older women end up pregnant bc they think they can't," explained another.
"Isnt this the same lady whose daughter took her to the Dr and she found out she’s pregnant . When the daughter asked who’s gonna take care of her baby she said “Yall”," tweeted another X user.
Many users suggested getting the fetus aborted, tweeting:
"like how are those eggs not boiled, scrambled, and deep-fried by now?? Gender reveal would’ve been “Is it a girl, a boy, or abortion” cause I’m sending that child right back to God IMMEDIATELY. I’d see again tinka in a few years anyway."
"At 64?!?!? Now, I don’t mean to be ageist, but come on sis!!! Abort that sh*t!" wrote another.
"I still can’t tell if this lady is trolling, because for whatever reason there has been a surge of women getting pregnant in their 50s and later. So I really can’t tell lol there’s a whole community over there on TikTok. I don’t understand why she would want to keep a baby at her age," opined one user.
However, many supported the pregnant mother, normalizing late pregnancies in the comment section.
"I remember in elementary school, most of the kids i went to school with had parents in their sixties, and we were in like 4th grade," wrote a netizen.
"Ima pray for everyone involved smh," declared another.
"That’s amazing she could still get pregnant!" inferred a user.
Many users on TikTok are claiming that cough medicine can help one get pregnant
"The Mucinex Method" has been trending quite a lot on TikTok lately, with users hailing it to be one of the best ways for someone to increase their chances of getting pregnant. Mucinex is a commonly available cough and cold medicine that is trending a lot on TikTok as one of the ultimate catalysts of pregnancy.
However, a cough and cold medicine facilitating pregnancy might sound counterintuitive. Here's the science behind it.
During unprotected sexual intercourse, sperm is deposited at the top of the vagina. To reach the uterus, the sperms must first travel through the cervix, i.e., the narrow tunnel connecting the vagina to the womb.
The cervix is responsible for controlling the entry of sperm into the womb by maintaining the thickness of the cervical mucus. If the mucus is too thick, it would stop the sperm from proceeding any further.
Therefore, maintaining the optimum cervical mucal thickness is paramount for achieving pregnancy. During the menstrual cycle, a woman's cervical mucus goes through a lot of changes, with the thickness becoming optimal around the time of ovulation.
The idea goes that Mucinex (or any drug containing guaifenesin) helps reduce the thickness of the cervical mucus and makes it easier for the sperm to reach the uterus.
However, there is scanty scientific research to back this TikTok hypothesis. It should also be noted that Reckitt, the makers of Mucinex, have explicitly stated that the drug should "only be used as intended in line with label directions." Taking Mucinex for curing infertility constitutes off-label use.
