What does "In Da Clerb we all fam" mean? Viral TikTok meme trend explained

In October 2024, the viral tune "in da clerb, we all fam" went viral on TikTok, garnering millions of views and likes on the video app. This trend is based on a quote from Comedy Central's hit series Broad City.

"In Da Clerb, We All Fam" is an iconic catchphrase from a March 2016 episode of Broad City, titled, BB-NYC. During the scene, Ilana Wexler (played by Ilana Glazer) said the same to her friend Abbi Abrams (Abbi Jacobson) as they crashed a party. It is now being utilized in lip-sync skits and other humorous content and went viral as a TikTok craze in October 2024.

Although the context of the tune is the use of African-American Vernacular English, people are interpreting this conversation in mutiple ways in relation to the TikTok trend. In October 2024, this scene reappeared as a popular meme, with netizens using the phrase to denote concepts like family, togetherness, and brotherhood.

TikToker Maggie Winters, whose account handle is @saggiesplinters, shared a video clip on October 3, 2024, dubbing the scene with the sound. Other TikTokers who joined the trend then started to use the tune. As per Know Your Meme's October 15 article, within ten days of its release, the Winter's video received over 11.2 million views and 573.7K likes.


'In Da Clerb' is the latest TikTok trend to go viral

The participation of pop diva Sabrina Carpenter further accelerated the trend. Carpenter joked about her younger and older followers in the video she uploaded on her TikTok on October 9, 2024, using the same sound. In the clip, Carpenter stated,

"My 30-year-old fans trying to talk to my 12-year-old fans."

As per Know Your Meme's aforementioned article, in just five days, the pop idol's video had over 12 million plays and 2.5 million likes.

TikToker @erikatitus then shared a video clip on October 11 and dubbed the words "In da clerb, we all fam," and within three days, it received over 20 million views and 3 million likes.

Additionally, the catchphrase also made its way to X in early October 2024, as seen by the uploads made on October 13 by X users @mothintoflames and @tinaturttle, which received over 300,000 and 250,000 likes in a single day, respectively.

Since then, several well-known TikTokers and celebrities have joined the trend, such as Troye Sivan, Charli XCX, Noah Beck, Brooke Shield, Alix Earle, and more. Charli XCX and Sivan posted about their joint tour using the sound and wrote in the title, "Re: the twinks in the crowd at Sweat".

Numerous other videos have featured the sound, with titles such as "When I refer a TikTok to someone and they don't get it," "Me catching an attitude because I had to repeat myself more than twice," and "My straight sister trying to relate to me and all her gay friends," among others.

Users also posted about their favorite teams, pop culture families, or even their friends and family on X using the same sound. Additionally, many different images of groups of people are being captioned by users with the phrase "in da clerb, we all fam."

Shows like Succession, Heartstopper, and The S*x Lives of College Girls have also received the "in da clerb, we all fam" treatment, as have movies like Bottoms and Bodies Bodies Bodies.


TikToker Maggie Winters has not said anything since the trend went viral.
