"When did politics turn into live concerts"— Netizens react as GloRilla performs live at Kamala Harris' rally
GloRilla was one of the many artists who performed at US Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris' campaign rally in Milwaukee on November 1. The Memphis-based rapper's six-minute set included songs like Hollon, Yeah Glo!, and TGIF.
Dressed in glittery Camo pants and a black full-sleeved top, GloRilla was joined by four backup dancers as she took to the stage in West Allis. Toward the end of her set, she urged people to vote.
GloRilla's performance at the Harris rally received mixed reviews on social media. While some were entertained, others were seemingly annoyed at artists performing at political rallies. One person commented:
Many agreed with this sentiment, adding that rappers like GloRilla didn't need to perform at campaigns. Others dubbed the 2024 election the "worst in history," while some felt GloRilla's lyrics were not suitable for a rally performance.
Meanwhile, others praised Harris for using celebrities to bolster her campaign, calling it a strategy to win voters of all age groups. Some people added that celebrities were the best way for politicians to get people's attention to pass their message.
Rappers GloRilla, Flo Milli, and Cardi B attended Harris' Milwaukee campaign
GloRilla was joined by fellow female rappers Flo Milli, Cardi B, and MC Lyte at Democratic candidate Kamala Harris' campaign rally in Milwaukee just days before the presidential election. Flo Milli and MC Lyte also performed on stage, while Cardi B opted to give a nearly 10-minute speech about why she endorsed Harris.
Cardi stated that, like Harris, she was an underdog. She added that people underestimated women, who had to work 10 times as hard to prove themselves. She also alluded to Trump being a bully, claiming he was selling "chaos and confusion."
"He’s [Trump] selling us bigotry, misogyny, division, chaos and confusion. And it's going to cost you your money, equal opportunity, affordable health care, and any rights you thought you had for your body. He’s going to take it from you! Listen to me. He’s going to take it,” she said.
The singer added that she was choosing to endorse Harris because she believed in her policies, saying she wanted a better future for her as well as her three children. Comedian Keegan-Michael Key also gave a speech supporting Harris, saying, "The only choice is Harris and Walz."
At the event, Kamala Harris' 23-minute speech saw her talking about women's reproductive rights and encouraging bipartisanship, among other topics. She expressed her willingness to listen to people with opposing views to help improve America, saying:
"I pledge to listen to experts, to listen to people who disagree with me. Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe that people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put them in jail, I’ll give them a seat at the table.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee on November 1. During his 90-minute speech, he called Harris a "low-IQ person." Additionally, he touched on his anti-immigration policies, promising the “largest deportation program in American history” if he was elected president.
