"That Epstein list is worth a lot of money" — Internet reacts to Bill Gates endorsing Kamala Harris, donating $50 million to her campaign

On October 22, 2024, NY Times reported that Bill Gates had reportedly donated about $50 million to Future Forward which is a non-profit organization supporting Kamala Harris.

While Bill Gates has not endorsed a presidential candidate yet, The New York Times cited a private phone call stating he expressed concerns about Trump becoming president for the second time and mentioned working with another candidate.

The former Microsoft CEO's support toward Harris has garnered a lot of attention and internet users took to X to express their views on the same. Referring to Elon Musk's statement about billionaires like Gates supporting Kamala to prevent Trump from coming into power and releasing 'The Epstein client list, an X user tweeted:

"That Epstein list is worth a lot of money to Bill……"
"Shocker!! Another Epstein frequent flyer backs Kamala Harris!! You people are pathetic." an X user commented.
"Honestly a serious question...would this have not been more helpful say a month ago?" another X user mentioned.
"He’s worried about Epstein client list being released" an internet user said.
"I thought billionaires in politics was a bad thing? Or is it only billionaires that support Republicans?" another internet user commented.

However, some internet users also supported Gates' alleged decision to donate to Kamala Harris' campaign:

"Take that Elon Musk and Donald Trump. And Gates’ ex-wife, Melinda, is a Democratic megadonor who has given more than $13 million to groups backing Harris. Let’s go! Early voting is off to a record-breaking start all across America, and Kamala Harris is going to WIN!" an X user stated.
"Thank you Mr. Gates . And our democracy thanks you too.💙🇺🇸💙" another X user commented.

"This election is different" — Bill Gates comments on his involvement in upcoming U.S. presidential elections

Three sources informed The New York Times that Bill Gates, though not close to Kamala Harris, reportedly supports the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts on climate change. Additionally, two people from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation expressed concern about potential cuts to global health and family planning programs if Donald Trump is re-elected.

In a statement responding to The New York Times reporting his $50 million pledge to Harris' campaign, Bill Gates talked about supporting candidates "who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty and fighting climate change in the US and around the world."

Additionally, the former Microsoft CEO also mentioned:

“I have a long history of working with leaders across the political spectrum, but this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the most vulnerable people around the world.”

According to The New York Times, in an interview in late 2019, Bill Gates said that he chooses not to participate in large political donations even though there are times he feels tempted to do so, however, he doesn't want to boast about the same.

In his current statement to the publication, the billionaire mentioned that he supports candidates who represent a commitment to reducing poverty, improving healthcare, and combating climate change in the U.S. as well as globally.
