On November 12, 2024, X account @rawsalerts tweeted that Alex Jones recently announced his news service Infowars is shutting down on November 13, 2024, ahead of a court-ordered auction to compensate families of the Sandy Hook shooting victims.
According to Newstimes dated November 8, 2024, buyers eyeing Alex's Infowars platform submitted sealed proposals on the same date in order to qualify as bidders for the auction of the platform due this week on November 13, 2024.
Internet users were quick to take to X to express their opinions on Alex Jones announcing the shutdown of his Infowars platform. Referring to Alex's support for Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign and even after he became president-elect, an X user suggested:
"NOOOOOOOOOO! I stand with @RealAlexJones! Trump has to do something to correct this injustice. It’s absurd what they’re doing to this man! FREE F**ING SPEECH"
"Every single person that has been harmed by the machine built to stop Trump and hurt the conservative movement will be fully restored when Donald Trump takes office in January 20th", an X user tweeted.
"I think @realDonaldTrump should work with @RealAlexJones to find him a cabinet position", another X user said.
"Well… I guess that leaves him totally available for White House Press Secretary. 🤣 I really really really hope Trump’s team makes that announcement on Thursday! Dems will have a complete meltdown over it. The ultimate pay back for making us suffer through KJP", an internet user commented referring to Biden's press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Additionally, fans of the American radio host expressed their discontent with Infowars being shut down:
"It’s a disgrace what those evil people did to Alex Jones. I’m sorry, but taking down Infowars will not bring back those kids", an X user tweeted.
"Free speech is no longer “free”", another X user mentioned.
"I really hope elon swoops in and gets it back for them", an internet user commented.
"I don’t want them to win"- Alex Jones mentions during latest broadcast
As per Newstimes dated November 8, 2024, the Infowars auction is taking place to raise money to pay what Alex Jones owes to the Sandy Hook families. In June 2024, Alex was ordered to liquidate his personal assets in order to pay the Sandy Hook families $1.5 billion, given he had made false claims about the elementary school shooting which took place in 2012.
Commenting on the shooting which killed six educators and 20 first graders in Connecticut, Alex said it was a hoax which led to families of the victims suing him for defamation.
During a recent broadcast, Alex addressed the Infowars auction and stated:
“Is Infowars going to disappear after the auction on Nov. 13? The answer is yes. (Infowars) will no longer be owned by me… (but) I do want to stay on the air; and I don’t want them to win.”
While Alex filed for bankruptcy in 2022, as per the NPR website's report dated September 2024, a court-appointed trustee for the radio host's personal bankruptcy case began the process of auctioning off parts of Free Speech Systems which is the parent company of Infowars. The parts listed for auction comprise domain names to production equipment.
According to AP News dated November 9, 2024, Alex Jones has stated that his supporters will buy Infowars assets and Free Speech Systems enabling him to continue using the platforms.
Additionally, the radio host has also set up new social media accounts and websites and has been directing his audience to the same.
