What is the I Love Your Daughter TikTok trend? Sean Gunn's Gilmore Girls-inspired challenge explained

A new trend, inspired by Gillmore Girls' Kirk Gleason, called "I love your daughter" is going viral on TikTok. The trend, which first began circulating in September, is seeing men enact a scene from a short film made by Sean Gunn's (Kirk) character in the show.

The trend sees men on TikTok try to woo the father of their lover by breaking into their goofiest dance moves, much like in the short film.

In season 2 of Gilmore Girls, titled Teach Me Tonight (episode 19), Gunn's character makes a short black-and-white movie called "a film by kirk."

It features an exchange between Kirk and his love interest's father, which the men on TikTok lip sync to the conversation.

Kirk says, "I love your daughter." To this, the father responds by asking, "Who are you to love my daughter? What do you have to offer?" Gunn's character states:

"Nothing, only this..."

Then he proceeds to do a silly dance to White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) by Grandmaster Melle Mel in order to appeal to the father.

While the conversation remains the same, TikTokers, when doing the I love your daughter trend, dance to Olly Alexander's Breathe.

In a twist at the end, Pepito laid on the floor and began doing the worm dance. He questioned:

"Would you still love me if I was a worm?"

Creator and star of FX dramedy English Teacher, comedian Brian Jordan Alvarez, too, attempted the trend. He made three videos, one of which included him removing his t-shirt.

Several female TikTokers" hit on him" in the comments under the TikTok. This prompted Alvarez to share another video, jokingly asking:

"I'm getting hit on by girls and I'm like, 'Where was this energy when I was pretending to be straight?'"

In an interview with Mashable, Zo (@pokemonmasterzo), another user whose I love your daughter video went viral, called the trend "successful peacocking." He explained:

"It's successful because people are falling for it. Those dumb or funny dance moves actually do work"

Zo's video received more than 4.4 million views and 550,000 likes.

Another heartwarming viral fad on TikTok was the "She deserves the purse" trend. It featured users across the United States leaving gift cards or cash inside baby products for sale at a local supermarket for the child's parents to find.

The idea was to recognize the sacrifices parents make while raising children.

It began after user Denaesha Gonzalez shared an image of a woman's purse in the baby section of a local store with the in-photo caption, "She deserved the purse."

The assumption was that the mother left behind the purse in order to purchase baby products. She wrote:

"To the Mother who chose themselves last, you deserve the world tonight and always."

This inspired content creator Cecily Bauchmann to perform a random act of kindness and leave a $100 gift card inside a box of diapers. This sparked the trend, with several users participating.
