What does it mean to be sectioned? Hannah Murray's Game of Thrones character explored as actress opens up on cult experience

Hannah Murray's memoir The Make-Believe is scheduled to arrive in 2026. A few details related to the book have been revealed where she reportedly claims that she was sectioned in 2017 for being associated with a wellness cult. Hutchinson Heinemann has taken the responsibility to publish the book.

The details were revealed by The Bookseller, saying that Hannah Murray was filming for Game of Thrones while being sectioned. However, detailed information related to the cult shall be included in the upcoming memoir.

For the unversed, when someone is sectioned, the individual is taken to the hospital irrespective of his or her choice. The legal authority for being admitted arrives from the Mental Health Act 1983 instead of someone's consent, as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The action is taken in different situations, including when an individual's mental health needs to be checked, specifically when it is about to get worse. Any person would be assessed by health professionals before being lawfully sectioned.

The time to keep someone at the hospital depends on the section on which he or she has been detained. There are different rules included under all the sections and the time of detaining someone can be expanded as per requirements.


Hannah Murray played an important role in Game of Thrones

The Bristol, England native has been a part of various TV shows and films over the years. However, Hannah's performance as Gilly in Game of Thrones majorly helped her to become a popular face among the public.

Hannah Murray initially appeared as a recurring character for two installments until she was promoted to a regular one in the fourth season. Gilly is a part of the Free Folk and was born to Craster, and was also his wife. She later gave birth to a child named Sam who was born out of a forced relationship with her late father.

Apart from Gilly, Craster has 18 more wives since he had a habit of marrying his daughters. Gilly lived at Craster's Keep and she was named after Gillyflower.

The character was changed a little bit compared to how she was portrayed in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Gilly keeps dead rabbits in the show but she does not work at Mole's Town. She has dark hair, brown eyes, and a gaunt face in the book and Jon Snow initially believes that she is around 15 or 16 years old.

After fleeing from Craster's Keep, Gilly and Samwell Tarly grow close and eventually intimate moment, which the latter feels guilty of. Despite that he falls in love with Gilly, he can't marry her since he believes that she deserves a better man considering that he is fat.


Hannah Murray speaks up on her upcoming book

As mentioned, the 35-year-old would be addressing her personal life in The Make-Believe, revealing details that remain unknown to everyone. Hannah Murray additionally expressed her happiness of being able to work with Helen Conford, saying that her "vision for the book aligns perfectly with mine." As per Bookseller she shared:

"The Make-Believe tells a deeply personal story that has lived inside me for many years and which it now feels vital to share."

According to the Independent, Hutchinson Heinemann also shared a statement, saying that the book's storyline refers to a "blurred line between what is real and what is an illusion." The publishing company continued by saying:

"It is about the lure of those that tell us they can save us, and the deceptive structure of organizations that promise us 'wellness.' It's about the acting world, but also about the way all of us act, hiding our vulnerabilities from everyone except the people trained to prey on them."

Hannah Murray's career dates back to the time when she was cast as Cassie Ainsworth in the teen comedy drama, Skins. She also has several films in her credits, such as Dark Shadows, God Help the Girl, and The Chosen.
