Who was William Sadler married to? Shawshank Redemption star mourns death of wife of 46 years
Die Hard 2 star William Sadler recently paid tribute to his longtime wife Marni Joan Bakst, who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. According to IMDb, Marni appeared in a film titled Skippy, which was released back in 2001.
According to People magazine, Sadler and Marni exchanged vows back in 1978 and were the parents of a daughter named Sadler Colley Bakst. Notably, Sadler's current profession remains unknown since she has preferred to keep herself away from the spotlight.
William Sadler expressed his grief over Marni's death by sharing a statement in a Facebook post which reads:
"Early yesterday morning, my wife, Marni Bakst, finally lost her two year battle with cancer. After what has been an amazing forty five years of marriage I don't think I can fathom or put into words much of this yet."
Sadler continued by saying:
"Maybe with time and a little distance I'll find it easier to describe this extraordinary artist, feminist, wife, and mother, but for now I want to thank you all for your patience and kind words."
A similar statement was also shared by Sadler through X (formerly Twitter) and both the posts included a photo where the duo had coffee mugs in their respective hands. Furthermore, the picture was captured back in May 1978 on the wedding day.
William Sadler's wife supported him throughout his career over the years
The Buffalo, New York native was married to Marni Joan Bakst for more than 40 years. Compared to The Shawshank Redemption star, Marni maintained a distance from the limelight due to which detailed information on her career and early life remain unknown.
A report by Daily Mail stated that Marni supported William Sadler as he pursued a career in the acting industry, specifically when he made his debut on Broadway in 1985 with Biloxi Blues.
However, in an interview with Absolute Music Chat in August 2020, William recalled a journey to Scotland several years ago where he was accompanied by Marni. William described the journey as a "fascinating" experience and continued:
"I did a TV show called Assaulted Nuts back in the '80s, and it was one of the first jobs I ever did that paid any money. They took us over to film just outside of London. We would shoot six episodes or so, then have a break while they wrote more episodes. We rented a car one time and drove up to Scotland."
In another conversation with Decider in July 2020, William Sadler revealed that he first met Marni Joan Bakst in 1976 in East Village, New York. He further stated:
"I was living on 7th Street between 1st and 2nd, and she was on 5th between 2nd and 3rd, and I was doing Shakespeare in the Park at the time. But I came out to Hollywood and did a movie called Project X, with Matthew Broderick, and then after that I went back to New York and the East Village because we had a new baby, one who was born while we were filming it!"
Back in May last year, William and Marni celebrated 45 years of their marriage and the former shared a Facebook post on the occasion. He wrote that Marni continues to bring coffee for him and described himself as the luckiest man.
William Sadler was last seen in the supernatural horror film 'Salem's Lot, which was released in October this year. The 74-year-old has gained recognition over the years for his performances on projects such as Iron Man 3, The Grudge, Roswell, and more.
